My '78 is unpainted. The bumpers were sometime in the past but the body is bare. I use boat wax to shine it up and it looks like well aged old laquer to me. With some spot repair I think you would have to paint over the primer after repair. Could be a tough match of finish and/or color.

There are people that can match the gel coat in the repair. Usually a boat shop. If you want to brighten up that gel coat, consider power buffing it with a rubbing compound and then a glaze. Shines it right up.
