Desi, my brutha!

Even though I drive the Speedy most everyday, you just described my weekend morning ritual! After taking the dog for an early morning walk, I jump in the Speedy, cruise down the hill to the beach, a quick blast down PCH to Laguna Beach, on the way home stop at a bakery in Crystal Cove for a Cinnamon Crisp, and get home to start the day of whatever.

Glad to hear that TUFFTUB is running strong again!

Peace - Out!

OK! Here is what last Sunday AM went like for me. I Had driven up PCH to Malibu area on Saturday. Did some canyon running, Latigo being the best. I spent the night in Thousand Oaks and got up early Sun. for more . The morning was crystal clear and cool. I took Mulholland to Topanga Canyon Rd. Put on LA Woman and let Morrisons' ghost take the right seat. Made it to Sunset Blvd about 8:45 and decided to see what Beverly Hills looks like on Sun AM. There was starting to be some traffic on Sunset. This area is the home of more exotic cars than anywhere else in the world. At one traffic light I was stopped with a Maybach, Aston Martin, Bentley and some weird space ship looking car with no make badge that looked like it was good for 250 MPH. Then it happened. In this land of dream cars and dream girls, a heartbreakingly cute 20 something in a VW convertible passes me and yells " That is a really beautiful car!" It did my heart good. Ya gotta love California. And Speedsters!SEG permanently in place.
Oh, yeah???

Well last Sunday morning, after walking the two fearless, Jack Russells, I hopped into Pearl and headed over to Lady's Island, all the way out to the end of SC 802, stopped to take in the dock where Forest Gump came back to after riding out the hurricane, then took a side road over to St. Helena Island and hung a left all the way out SC 21 to the Shrimp Shack to get a coffee and a shrimp burger, then went out to Hunting Island State Park and cruised out to the Ocean beach and checked out the light House.

Left there and cruised back SC 21 to downtown Beaufort, hung a left on Bay Street and checked out the tourists along there (the same street that Kevin Kline was jogging along in the morning with John Hurt in "The Big Chill", stopped at Bay and Ribaut to watch tourists (see post elsewhere on this site) and then headed home past Parris Island Marine boot camp (God knows how many films have used that site) but didn't swing by there because those gate guards look 12 feet tall when they walk up to a Speedster. Finally made it home - about 1-1/2 hours (took a few extra minutes to finish the Shrimp Burger).

Thinking, next week, of going up to "Harold's Country Club" (formerly "Harold's Fillin' Station") in Yemassee next Sunday morning - I've heard that, even though they're not "officially" open, you can still get a coffee and Grits on Sunday morning......

GN Life is good in the Low Country.......
Oh YEAH!!!

Wel I got up Sunday and met the local VW club for a back-roads run up to Lake Moultrie where we found this hidden little park with huge, moss-draped oaks and a gazebo on a hilltop overlooking the countryside. We had a picnic and played bocci ball (bocci ball??). We drove back on a bunch of winding roads and I got home with an extra 200 sunny and cool miles on the car.

Gotta love Fall in the lowcountry. I didn't see any cute 20-somethings, though. I think Will's story still sounds best.
Will -

Sounds like you had a good day of cruising. Sorry I missed the opportunity. Did you do Mulholland a la 'King of the Mountain' or just cruised along to Morrison/LA Woman? Nice either way.

Funny thing how these Speedsters will always get noticed in a crowd of high-end Eurocars and other exotic rides and draw comment from passers-by (especially women!).

Hope we can hook up on another run!!
