Does anyone know how to identify an early IM speedster? I just picked up a traditional body speedster that suffered from an identification crisis and thought it was a boat when hurricane Katrina rolled through a few years ago. The car was a pan-based speedster. The gauges looked to be a 914 set. It has rear decklid hinges that have Intermeccia written on them. The front hood handle has an Intermeccia emblem on it. The part that confuses me is that the rear decklid grille is a cast one that looks like a CMC hibatchi type. Did early IMs us the cast grille?
Any help in figuring out IM specific identifiers would be greatly appreciated.

Jim,
So far you've described the same tell tale signs of my car (aside from the boat impersonation). I have an old IM and I too have what appears to be an old CMC engine grille. The grille is going bye bye to be replaced with one from Spec Ed. to fit my Carrera lid I got from them.
I haven't been able to find ANY marks other than the rear hinge castings to ID my car.
There is only a state ID plate on the door frame and nothing else. There may be a number on the cross member under the dash (not on mine though).
