Actually it was Max and me, tri-state area of NY-NJ-PA. We were going to do one of the old NJRC runs, and all are welcome, Saturday the 11th of July, weather permitting. If it's rainy Saturday, we were planning on going Sunday. Lenny will be there, as well as a couple friends of mine in 911s. I think Howard is away that weekend, and how is Rocky's rebuild coming? Max, you got your hinges back yet?

I guess I'd better plan a route/timetable and pick an eatery, but it really depends on how many are coming to this.
Hi All... finally nice weather up here in New England so haven't been playing on the computer, as much! Marc & I took a WONDERFUL drive up to the Castle in the Clouds up here in NH. Missed a Classic & Antique car show on Saturday because we went up on Sunday! (They have a great field and had about 400 cars on Sat! ~ can't believe we missed it!) We had the road to ourselves and were commenting on what a great trip this would be for some New Englanders!!! I got some fantastic pictures and great video and will try to post some later.... but this should ABSOLUTELY be a consideration for a rally drive for everyone up here in New England!
OK, here is the 30seconds I caught on video of driving up the hill to the Castle in the Clouds in NH. We had the road to ourselves and it was a great twisting ride! The only problem was that I wasn't driving ~ well, someone had to hold the camera!

(OK, Troy, trying to do this, so the video is here but I don't see it, just all the 'stuff'. What did I do wrong?)

Kelly ~ still finding out about stuff to do in NH, myself! If you're headed North, there's always Mt. Washington. You can hike it, take a Cog railway (if you hike up, you are a standby for the ride down) or take the AutoRoad. I forgot how much the road is, but they give you a CD to listen to on the way up, and it's a fun trip. Besides, you get a bumper sticker that says: This car climbed Mt. Washington. The Mt. Washington resort is a classy old world resort that has a great golf course, but if you're into golf, I have friends that swear by The Balsams.
We are only an hour or so North of Boston, and there is always something going on there. See if Gordon can give you some local spots for MA & RI. Mystic Seaport, Bristol, Newport... all not far from NH. Head East, and you get Stowe VT (Ben & Jerry's is a must, as well as the Von Trapp family hotel & resort (Sound of Music family) The views from that place are unbelieveable!
Last but not least, is the beach! Rye Beach has some monster, big mansions to drool over, as well as the touristy end that has some fun hangouts! Let us know when you might be coming thru Merrimack/Manchester... we can throw some burgers/steaks on the grill, & talk cars if we're not flying around the world somewhere!

Gordon's favorite town in the lakes region: Ossippee (my God Mother lives there, too)
Gordon's second favorite town near the lakes: Wolfboro - it's just cool. Gilford's not bad, either, plus lots of cool cruising roads around the lakes.

Not a lot of festivals later in August, so check your local tourist guides and get pot luck.

Keep in touch via email (I'm not on here much these days) and maybe we can hook up at Suzie's place!

Oh, and Suzie: To get to Stowe, VT, ya gotta head NorthWEST (not East) and it's about a 2-1/2 hour drive from Merideth.

Gorgon ~ I knew you'd know all the best places!

And I guess East/West is a catagory of Left/Right and I readily admit that I ALWAYS get them mixed up. I blame it on being a tour guide in DC years ago, where I was standing up on a bus, facing backwards and pointing out... "On your left, you'll see..." but the folks on the bus would be looking to what would be MY right!
Also, I flew the old MD-80 airplane, which was my favorite for years, & it had a door on aircraft LEFT, so... during those lovely old-fashioned demonstrations that no one listend to anyway, I was pointing out "the door on your Left" while I was pointing to my right! Just saying.... 20+ years of this will mess you up!

And yes, I've been told to hold my hands up, palms out, and my finger & thumb will look like an "L" on my left hand ~ for Left, or loser, or whatever! =)

So if anyone is ever in a car with me, and giving directions ~ POINT!!!
Commander Kelly!

My ever-trusty sources tell me that there's a TERRIFIC Italian restaurant right in Meridith called "Abondante" http://www.abondantenh.com/ Worth the trip to check it out, as well as a small place called "The Mug" or George's Diner (both for breakfast). Not to mention a whole slew of other decent restaurants in Meridith and surrounding towns. Mike Love's place is great - it's called the Lemon Grass behind the strip mall on the right as you go through Ctr Harbor going north. We also like the Homestead in Bristol which is very close to Meredith. It's an old farmhouse turned into a restaurant. Also look for a place called the Canoe - GREAT food.

Also, remember that I mentioned Wolfeboro up above? It turns out that French President Sarkozy (Emphasis on the ZEE) gave up the French Riviera last Summer to spend time in Wolfeboro with his current wife-who-looks-just-like-his-previous-wife-only-younger, and it's also the oldest resort town in America. How 'bout DAT?

I remembered that one of your destinations, Squam Lake, was the setting for the Movie "On Golden Pond". Some of the cottages look just like that in the movie, but a majority of them are VERY high end. That lake has also banned personal watercraft and any "cigarette-style" racer - - of course, you'll still see the occasional, grandfathered-in, Chris-Craft wooden classic runabout but there is a gentleman's agreement that most of the lake is a no-wake zone. LOTS of old WASPs hang out at that lake - have for a couple of hundred years. No beaches to speak of (far too rocky) so everyone swims off of their boat. All of those old wooden boats make a nice little economic environment for a small handful of people who specialize in working on them. They are all artists.

Wish I could think of some cool places to go around there, but I'm much more of a Vermont person (Chittenden, Jamaica, Grafton, Wardsboro, Stratton or Quechee). Once you get there, grab a local tourist guide or a Yankee Summer Guide (they're everywhere) or ask the staff at Audrey's or George's or the Mug when you go for breakfast. If you only do one thing, get over to Winnipisaukee and take a dinner/sunset cruise on the Mt. Washington boat, or go to the "Barnstormers" theater for Summer Stock. Lots of familiar faces acting there... Also, while the Mt. Washington auto road is nice (some would say "thrilling", I much prefer the Cog-Railway up the mountain, or the scenic rail tours out of North Conway.

Have a great time in the Lakes Region!! We'll be heading to Camden, Maine in a bit to visit with some friends there, then on to Augusta.

WOW!! I'm gonna cut and paste this stuff and take it wih me. The dates are short: last week end in aug, Thurs through Tues. The occasion is the wedding of the youngest son of my oldest friend, like from high school, on Sunday. And so he has a place on Lake W'ee and I have been going up to visit w/ him there for years. Usually I just stay there and boat, swim, fish, etc. This time I wish to go a bit farther afield, and my friend's small house is filled to overflowing w/ family for the wedding. So I am not staying there this time. i think the cog railroad is a deffinite, also Castle in the clouds. Will be staying "On Golden Pond" in a nice B&B there. I know there really is a Golden Pond in the vicinity, but it is preserved, or small or rustic or something that made it very unphotogenic, so they made the movie at Squam. Have been hiking in the White mtns before also. Anyway, will be flying in to Manchester on Thursday so Suzee: maybe the drop-in might work. My "right seater" is not especially tuned in to the whole car thing, but she is sociable. And she does enjoy the occaisional (if not too many hours) ride in the Speedy. So we are deep into the plotting and scheming aspect here. And Gordon: the tips for eats are very much appreciated. Love to hit the good spots and it's so hard to know where they are coming in cold.
