I've been sitting here envious of the west coast wine runs and thought it was time to organize something on the east coast. There are 17 speedsters listed in the Washington DC area chapter, hopefully there are many more east coast owners who have not registered and are interested. Getting all of these Speedsters to an event will be tough as there are people from as far away as New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire and Georgia but it's worth a try to see how many we can get together.

I would be happy to organize an event before the snow flies this year and am curious to see how many might show. If something can be organized on a weekend in October, how many people would consider joining us? I am currently thinking of something in the Washington/Baltimore corridor. Give me an idea of the amount of interest and then we can work out the details. We might even be able to find a winery!

Here's the latest:
1. I found several wineries between Washington/Virginia and Maryland and I am checking the possibilities, hope to have an answer by the end of the week. My guidelines are access to main arteries, as central to attendees as possible, worth touring, open to a group, scenic backroads close by. All locations have accommodations nearby if anyone wants to do an overnight stay.
2. Spent considerable time going through the registry and found about 24 registered members who could reasonably travel to a Saturday/weekend meet (MD - 8, VA - 10, PA - 4, DE - 2) . There are an additional 28 who have a longer trip but could conceivably attend (NY - 12, NJ - 5, OH - 6, NC - 5). Beyond that there are quite ma few in states like NH, GA, MA, SC, WV who would have to commit considerable time to travel but woudl certainly be welcome! I do not know how many of these frequent the forum so will send an e-mail to each with the details. Note: A number of registered members do not have their locations specified so I could not tell if they were within "striking" distance.
3. Currently looking at the weekend of October 25-26 since that is the last weekend of Daylight Savings time - this should make for a great fall cruise and the spouses/significant others would enjoy the leaves. An alternative is November 1-2 but it will be dark earlier, the leaves will mostly be down and the air will be a bit colder.
4. Will put some sort of schedule/agenda together so everyone knows what's happening and when and will get that out as soon as some of the details are worked out.
5. There will be awards for a) longest distance traveled by a Speedster and b) people's choice (votes only by those who bring their Speedsters)....maybe one or two others.
6. If you know any Speedster owners who would be interested and are not on the list, let them (and me) know.
7. There is not a whole lot of time to plan this event but the idea is to get a buch of us together, enjoy the day, swap stories, .... All you need to do is let me know if you're coming, wash the car, throw some clothes in the back, make a hotel reservation if you need one and hit the road (a safety check, oil change, cell phone battery recharge, etc. may also be in order).
8. Did I miss anything? More to come.
Time for an update:
Plans for the Mid-Atlantic Speedster Meet and Winery Tour are moving along. The e-mail posted above was sent to about 30 registered members who are within a reasonable driving distance. I have received 19 responses - 11 are interested and planning to attend, 2 have sold their cars (their loss!), 2 addresses were invalid (see above), 2 have cars in progress and hope to be ready in time - and many nearby owners have not responded yet. We are currently leaning towards the Linganore winery location but are waiting until most of the responses are in before making a decision. Much of the communication is being done off-site via e-mail so I will try to keep everyone updated here. Don't feel left out if I did not e-mail you an invitation - this meet is open all (and some people do not have their location on their registration or are not even registered on this site. If you haven't already, let me know if you want to attend so we can plan accordingly. Stay tuned, this is turning out to be a good event.
Time for an update:

We're up to 18 Speedster owners who have expressed interest in joining us on October 25. In addition two more are hoping their cars will be done in time, I met two owners At Watkins Glen this past weekend who seemed interested and would confirm soon and I'm still receiving replies. The 18 are made up of owners from Virginia, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Count so far is one JPS, nine Vintage, two Intermeccanica, five CMC and one Beck. Some of the e-mail addresses on this site are bouncing so if you know someone who owns a Speedster in the neighboring areas let me know who they are and I'll send them details. Sounds like a great meet brewing! Anyone else want to join us?
