Looks like older SAS model?
That body, particularly around the windows, looks like some I've seen advertised from Mexico. I'm not buying the "made in Germany" thing.
I can't put my finger on it, but somethings, or a lot of things, just aren't right with that car.
...and usually I go nuts over coupes...

PLEASE let me know as I'm sort of diggin it...the drivers door GAPS appear to be a bit "OFF"....but despite that, looks OK...
Looking at the ad, I do not think it is being represented as made in Germany. It is IN Mexico, after all.. Top listing says a '55 356, which I think is inappropriate, as does not say replica. Further down all is revealed. Not that anybody should be fooled that this might be a 356. For a "new" engine as claimed, it looks pretty shabby in there. Not a fan of the big fat black rubber moldings on the windows, but overall, it looks pretty nice, and very well might be. If you take delivery in Nogales, be sure to check the frunk for illegals . . . Just sayin'

Will, that something is likely the wheels, and the paint thereon. Or the fat gaskets on the windows. as to the gelb paint, well, it's shiny . . .

Ad says "the car is placed in Mexico city" so you may be onto something; you can buy "made in X" country plates anywhere......

You can buy that plate at Sierra Madre, if memory serves.
Edit: It does. Here's the link. $20.
Fugly!
Looks like it was slapped together in a week...
Well, if someone were to drop it off in my driveway, I'd have it painted, change the wheels and tint those windows and happily drive it....
Speaking of fugly, has Starke been posting lately? I am just trying to spin this thread in a different direction of course. German or Mexican, it is a car, not a drawing.

I'll take it for 12K....throw in a 3.6 with a Janis Joplin paint job!
It is actually a close replica of the real 356 Continental which never really took off...however, the baby sh*t yellow shade of "Gelb" paint does not rock my boat!
ALREADY OVER $20,000 in 4 hours ????
the Continetal was a luxury version 356 with wood trim on dash and doors.was discontinued due to Ford sueing over the name copyright. I think was only used 54 and 55
There were not many of these made and apparently they (the REAL ones) are quite collectable. Here are a few pics of the Engine of the real deal( wow it has a baby sh*t Gelb Oil Filter too!). And the picture of Gizelle, the proud owner of a Continental cab bears a striking resemblance to Crocodile Dundee from Deown Unduh...no wait, that IS Crocodile Dundee in Drag!

Ok, I'll mention the made in Germany Diamond plate in the engine compartment...must be some red necks in Mexico City....
The pic above of Ms Dundee is stunning. Gotta love that paint job.

Unless he just changed it due to scrutiny, it says "Replica" in the eBay title.
1955 Porsche 356 Continental / Replica
Very Good Looking Porsche Continental Replica
The large text isn't me yelling at you, it's just copied over from eBay that way.
Real engine compartment:
This sweet ride was spied at Carlisle this year. A gorgeous 10-point resto, driven about 10K mi/ year, he said.

The guy says best idea is to come on down and kick the tires, so I don't think he's trying to pull a fast one here. Anybody wanna go to Mexico? Who speaks Spanish??
The engine lid release wire is not very well placed. The glove box door is not recessed to be flush with the trim. It is hinged and just covers the hole in the dash.
And if it's supposed to be a Continental it needs an antenna, iirc.
to elaborate on my earlier foul comment about the coupe:
it's the color, the whitewalls (sorry Cory), the gigantic quarter-window rubber, the diamond-plate engine compartment, the lack of proper cooling tins/engine seals (not the Sea World kind), the Continental badging nestled right on the side trim, shall I continue?...
...but Frazoo, that real Continental is gorgeous, drooling over the engine, thanks for the photo, eye-candy!
Made in Mexico. The same car, same pics, advertised about a year ago on Samba.

And Bob, it has not gotten better with age!
WOW...it obviously has caught the eye of a number of BIDS...now OVER $26K.
I would have love to "steal it" at 16/17K but 26K in less than 24 hours is just plain REMARKABLE.

Banzai - That is just further proof that we made a good decision to invest in a very unique product that we mainly bought to thoroughly enjoy! As this advert for the Continental also shows is that there is a replica for everyone. I took a ride in my speedie with my GoPro mounted on the rack last weekend to just capture the car going through a nice stretch of local shoreline and bluff drive. After a brief stop to visit a Nam Vet friend of mine at his Beach curio store I started up the car and the GoPro and a couple walked up asking me lots of questions about the speedster. The wife says " my husband wanted to steal your car he loves it so much", and they both were very interested in finding one for themselves. Great lead in to talk about the SOC and get them excited and hooked up with Therons web site to find a speedie of their own. SOC and speedster ownership has been a great experience for me, but what really makes it is the members of this club, bar none. Its the amazing knowledge shared, the banter, and the incredible support you get that makes this club a solid 10 for me.
Well Dutch, what can I say?? Like thanks! and, Um, You're welcome
My thoughts too, Bill.
The engine pic I posted was from a "garden variety" '57 Speedster, not a Continental. Before this ad, et seq., I never heard of a cCntinental before. Hmmm . . . fake news fake bids ,. . . does anybody say it like it is anymore, besides Stan and Yoda??
1976 pan is by definition from Mexico or maybe Brazil. Unless someone destroyed a Convertible Bug.
which would be a sin of high order.
