I originally posted this in general non-tech. It is probably better served, if at all, here. In a very small number of cars I had to make guess, as information was not given in the listing.

Interesting info. So, the average price for a used Speedster selling on Ebay in the last 3 months is $20,314 and the median is $21,500. And the most common engine is a 1600cc.
Obviously, condition is the largest factor in selling price, but how much does owner built vs reputable car builder affect price?
James;
I didn't list, nor collect manufactures. I'll take a quick look and see how often, that detail was provided. Wish there was a query feature to eBay. I have noticed that ebay doesn't force sellers to provide key data, ie cc size, miles.
New sold listing. With manufacture and mileage, when posted. Some estimates/guess made. "objects in the mirror are closer than they appear"

Nice work!
This will be really helpful for me in my quest.
Thanks,
Ted
Not sure if this really means anything, but the average sell price for a CMC was $16,920, a JPS was $23,800 and a VS was $23,300. Almost half the cars were VS, which makes sense since they are such a large producer.
So maybe this answers my earlier question. apparently owner built cars (assuming that the CMC's are owner built) have a considerably lower resell than the manufactured cars. Almost 30% less! Therefore, how can a person that builds their own car increase its value to a potential buyer, especially if the quality is comparable (or better) than a manufactured car? In my opinion, an owner built car (by a competent person) could be of higher quality than a manufacturer built car because of attention to detail, extra time spent on details, well sorted thru the desire to own the best, willingness to spend extra money without expecting a return, etc. Examples, Mango, the Scott Sloan/Max Handley car, and several others on this board.
I know, I am rambling. lol Sorry, just thinking out loud.
Scott Sloan's car was built by Intermeccanica.
Dr Clock sold a CMC for $25K if I recall.
How many of those sold actually sold? So many winning bidders fail to finish the deal...
SOOd a few CMC's in the low to mid $20's but I added alot of detail and bling above the standard CMC speedsters.
Back in the day I was buying running speedys for $4k - $7k..... None at that price anymore ~

I selected the "sold listings" choice on the kit/replica and the 356 listings of eBay. Then sorted thru and posted my search findings. I have no idea what eBay's criteria for sold listings is.
Not every listing is complete with info, so this is really is a back of the envelope survey. And as I mentioned I had in 3-5 cases take liberty in the data. For example there was one listing that reported horsepower was 150HP, but no displacement info. I am no expert, I just swagged it at 2332cc. Correct, certainly not, but fairly close perhaps.
James,
I do agree with your point about the potential oversight of an owner built car. For example, my CMC is going to have two body pros putting in well over 40 hours in body work alone (one of them having worked on a Seinfeld 356), a master electrician putting in a loom system, seasoned Porsche mechanics putting the essentials together and every bit of detail of this car is getting attention with over ten meticulous pairs of eyes looking over every step of the process. We aren't putting in the time/money for potential return but it's being built to make every bit of it more enjoyable for our satisfaction of quality building. I know that when the time comes for mine to go to market, it will be of a much higher standard than most CMCs (or factory built). All I can say for anyone building their CMC correctly is that you better keep good records and you better document every stage of the process because CMCs will always be held to a higher level of scrutiny. Also, any seller who is resistant to having a PPI done on their car prior to sell absolutely has something to hide. I don't know why this theme has popped up on so many cars lately.
