....... or four Vintage Speedsters.

I can only drive them one at a time.

They'll sell every one they build.

Which will NOT be MANY cuz nobody aint layin down a deposit

Let's  not start this again.

We have no idea how many orders they currently have, how many they are currently building, how many buyers are considering them or how many will be ordered in 2018

Hmmmm let's see.....the same goes for Beck, IM and Vintage .....

Except Beck, IM, Vintage have a history of selling cars from mid $20s to $125K...over 50 years in the case of IM....and VERY successfully replicas of the HISTORIC 50s Porsche

None of them started with 50 years of experience either. They all started with their first car. Each of them chose to start with a familiar product and their own business model. Starke is trying something different, yet similar, but just like the others he's starting with his first one.

But we weren't talking about history, you just said that "nobody aint layin down a deposit" and we don't know how many deposits any other manufacturer has either. What you said will prove demonstrably false as soon as a Starke owner dares to show his face around here....

I'm not here to be the apologist for Starke as there's no way I would pay over 100 large for a replica; it doesn't mean no one else will and just perhaps in enough volume to support a successful business. But haven't we learned anything after all the braying around them never getting a single car built about perhaps letting them get a few sold before saying they have no deposits?

What have you got against the guy other than he ill advisedly put down other brands upon his introduction? Go for a drive and enjoy your weather

GUYS...they will sell a "FEW" but I try to grasp the COMMON SENSE factor along with the RIDICULOUS and NOSTALGIA index...in CONTEXT with history. First off, there are literally hundreds of failed and defunct car makers/manufacturers....so there is a very basic fundamental challenge built into the industry. Secondly, look at the RIDICULOUS factor which is the already pricey cars availability(Lambo, Porsche, Ferrari, Bugatti, McLaren, Mercedes AMG) which are flourishing, EXISTING, well moneyed competition for the huge/big money/oil.silicon.com wealth. Then I look at past attempts of similar nostalgia reach that have failed such as Ford T-BIRD, circa 2005....

Then I consider the existing Speedster nostalgia line of Beck, Vintage, Seduction, IM and then the big guys: Emory and Singer repros of 356 Coupes and 911. These look almost identical to their predecessors with enormous combos of VW/SUBIE/PORSCHE and even Detroit V8 which are existing, "apparently" doing well, and the focus of SOC madness.

Next I consider the potential buyer of a STARKE: not only does a buyer need to choose a STARKE, one that barely looks like a speedster, but buy a donor car(?) of potentially suspect history, and with a limited warranty and support of a new BOXSTER...BUT purposefully NOT buy ANY of the competition instead. So the moneyed buyer needs to say to oneself....."I am not going to buy a MB, Lexus, 911, Ferrari, IM, cayenne, Cadillac,  or any other car for $100 to $150K..rather I will buy a STARKE"? That is a very TALL ORDER to pull off...yes there are some that will buy as an addition, rather than INSTEAD OF, despite the fact that there are other options for the addition also.

All a matter of choice and competition along with basic fundamental challenge of success suggests a tough road to climb....very tough.

Where I live, that "MB, Lexus, 911, Ferrari, cayenne, Cadillac" Jag, Tesla etc won't get even a second glance. But the Starke will and that's what some of his buyers are after: notable exclusivity....then again, for that you can buy a $20K Vintage too

If you don't understand, you don't understand I guess.

Got it...but those few who choose the STARKE do NOT make a successful company............it might but TALL ODDS..

We shall see how many make that call?

Let's agree to DISAGREE?

Anyone who DROPS $120K on a used BOXSTER can get a second glance for a  lot less than a mutant SPEEDSTER...he is likely SAVVY if he has 120K in discretionary funds and might want to buy something that he can RESELL!

Second GLANCE does NOT make a successful car company selling used BOXSTERS......for 120K

THAT I UNDERSTAND!

Having tried and failed four times , I have nothing but respect for the small businessmen in America that can manage the problems and opportunities that are inherent in a start up.

They really are what makes America great and unique  from the other first world countries.....they are the job creators........ and if I had my way, there would be no business taxes but rather taxes on income..... like everyone else is subject too. Not a penalty for creating a business.

The proposed tax bill is a step in the right direction.   I am not going to defend the rest of it...... Happy Holidays and good luck to Starke and all their owners and employees ...

When I put my mouse over your name at the top of your post, David, it gives some member info, there are "follow David Stroud", "start private message" and "block member" buttons. If you "block member" I believe you no longer see their posts.

Krypes....sometimes I find myself hilarious. Taking your advice, Al. I applied the mouse over my name, looked everywhere and found no such "block member" function.

Tried and failed four times to find it. Finally figured it out...apparently you cannot block yourself !  These dang computers can be tricky. Then I put the mouse over your name and saw what you were telling me about. Sheesh....at least I learned one more thing today. Cheers...

IF I lived on that island I would have to have many cars to go around that circle all the time

I am with Pipeline on this one. The problem with the future is it is so hard to predict. Tastes change so maybe these things will sell. One thing I do know for sure is young people like our cars. Our cars are relatively easy to work on and parts are mostly inexpensive. The Boxster is the opposite and has a reputation for unreliability. At least we expect that and understand. At $120K I can buy the real thing brand new.

Not what you said. If memory serves, your line in the sand was that he'd fail to produce his first car. I still fail to see what irks you so about this guy.
