Jerry-

John Leader didn't ever have EFI, but Bill Steele did... and has probably forgotten more than any of the rest of us will ever learn. Bill had the Redline system, as well as some Megasquirt stuff, and a mexi-beetle EFI set-up. He dialed in the Redline system to near perfection (with nearly no help from the surfers at VW Paradise), but is back to running 44 IDFs on his car.

Bill doesn't post here any more, but is a registered owner ('05 Intermeccanica)- you should be able to find his eamil address.

Or, you could go to the shop talk forum's FI section:

My apologies to Bill and John. I got them mixed up.

Jerry: Getting the right system for you depends largely on what you want to do. My SDS system was a good choice for me because it has enough features to do everything I wanted to do but simple enough to get up and running quickly.

For me switching to EFI and a distributorless ignition was worth wile. It was an enjoyable project and it made the car more of a pleasure to drive. The car now pulls smoothly from idle and has excellent low RPM throttle response. I also got rid of an annoying midrange lean spot that I could never seem to fix with my Dells.
