I'm almost done withthe Hustler motor. One of the last
thing I need is a fuel pump. I've tried rebuilding them, and
had some issues. Do you guys use electric. If I switch can I
leave my stoked pump in place and just let the fuel run through
it?

I still need some pics of around the door openings. Not the
bottom on top of the rocker, around the sides. The area where
the carpet ends and the door striker plate begins. I'll send some
pics tomorrow when I get to work.
Some of us use a rotary pump from CB Performance or Aircooled.
Why not just use a cover plate and clean up the engine compartment?
I've been told that when a stock pump fails it can leak fuel into the case - bad juju. I'd do what Al suggests.
Is the fuel pump on the 356 engined Hustler (pictures are a Speedster)? The old 356 fuel pumps (and early VW) are very rebuildable. I'd keep the Hustler stock - it's a time capsule classic.
I guess I wasn't clear, I'm doing this on the Hustler 356 motor.
I tried to rebuild the pump on my 912, and had real problems.
The mating surfaces were damaged due to over tightening. I
had a real chore of flattening them out. the motor on the Hustler
is a 59 Super with a different pump. Is this one less a problem to do?
What I was thinking, was to put an electric pump In the torsion
bar area, and running it through the old pump. Do you think this will work?
I'd give rebuilding it a shot - if it doesn't work just by pass it. The one picture shows a bit of it and it looks like a newer sealed pump - in which case a rebuild might not be possible.
Here's IM -
and a CMC with VS bits (very ugly dash)-
Greg, I think he's looking for pics of the vertical section where the carpet terminates by the door striker/latch.
I see door hinges in photos - but same aluminum trim pieces can be used or use carpet binding. From CMC build manual-
Thanks, those are the shots I needed. Stock Porsche lower piece, and simple
aluminum side pieces. As far as the fuel pump, I understand about the leak
into the motor. I'm still leaning towards rebuilding it. I took it apart, and it's
a lot easier to rebuild than the C or 912 pumps. the early pump is much
more substantial, and the mating surfaces are larger and stronger and
much less prone to that dimpling that happens when they are over tightened.
Who told me a few months back, when I said " I'm almost done" that
It never ends?. Words to the wise.
Sorry Amadeus, it's the Hustler motor. Did I misspell your name?
Where can I get the front and rear carpet trim?
Intermeccanica has them on their builds.
