I had one from JC Whitney in an old T2 (similiar to one in link but with a long squirrel cage fan) - you plugged it into the cigarette lighter outlet. Good for defrosting windshield. Have you thought about putting aux oil cooler inside car for winter with fan blowing thru it. Or add seat heaters to your car's seats - $100 for parts.

I have one I used to have in my MB. It has to be run directly from the battery and not from the cigar lighter as it draws considerable current...I used a 60 amp fuse in there. I had this unit in my IM and it was able to defrost the windshield in minus 30 and just barely took the extreme chill off for short drives. Took it out now in favour of the Eberspacher heater so if anyone is interested in it PM me. This is not one of those cheap lighter deals and cost me more than $200 back in the mid-eighties. I would not use it continually to provide heat in our cars but to defrost it would be good.

In the UK classic mags I've seen electric demisters that are like this one http://www.caldotherm.co.uk/id15.html (a 24 volt but there's 12 volt out there) This might be a viable option if you're looking for defroster only. I've seen cheaper ones for 12 volt.
