I am almost done with the wiring. Last thing is the turn signals , brakes lights and E-flasher. I have a kwik-wire kitwhich is the same one that comes with the street beast. I just cannot figure out the column section. I have one hot for the turn signal and one for the E-flasher. The rest are for the front and rear turn signals with the except of one white wire labeled brake switch . I have talked to the tech's at kwik-wire ... they are no help at all. Can anyone give me a few tips? The wiring inquestion is at the column. The rest of the car is wired correctly.
Thanks,
Joe

Joe,

I used the same kit so I should be able to help. I remember it took a little head scratching to get it the turn signals and e-flashers right.

I used a 66-67 turn signal switch and a simple push-pull on-off switch for the e-flashers. I also used a terminal strip to make all the connections.

I need to know what are you using for a turn signal switch.

I will email you my phone number. Then, if you want, I can talk you through it while I'm under my dash remembering what I did.

For those having E-flasher problems ....look for a double pole single throw switch (DPST). It is hot one side and the opposites are separate ciruits. I found 4 DPST rock switches @$4.98 for 4. I am hidding them under the dash. For the original look the push/pull switch that allows you to have the park brake lights work intitially is a DPST switch.
Joe:

The alternator warning light MUST be connected to the D+ tab on your alternator for the charging circuit to work. That is the way (believe it or not) that the charging circuit senses the battery voltage (yes, through the bulb) to see when the battery is fully charged (or is in need of charging, however you want to look at it).

One side of the alternator light is connected to +12 volts from the ignition switch, and the other side of that same light goes directly to the "D+" tab connector on the alternator. No, there is no "ground" connection to that light (it gets "grounded" through the alternator - trust me). That's how the VW wiring diagram (and the dune buggy diagram from Kymco and CB) show it, too.

Joe:

I kind-of "free-handed" my system, basically using the VW wiring diagram, flashers and switches, but the charging circuit is straight out of CB Performance's "how-to" technical series.

Go to: www.cbperformance.com/techguide.asp

and look at the PDF for "wiring an alternator" and follow that.

Jerome:

If you don't have an alternator light connected to the D+ terminal, I don't know how it's charging. Must be doing something I'm not familiar with........Oh, wait! Do you have a VW Generator with an external voltage regulator?? If so, you can connect the D+ to one of the lugs on the regulator and it gets its' reference voltage that way (and you don't need a dash light, but it's still nice to have).
