My car is almost finished, all it needs is a good electrican to finish the wiring. I had the headlights and running lights working but not turn signals????? For the first time I turned over the motor to pressurize the case. Then add fuel to the tank, check for leaks all OK, turned over the motor for 30 seconds to run fuel through the line and nothing. I must not have the electric fuel pump grounded good. The next think i know there smoke under the dash. Quick turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery. I gotten to the point as to pay someone to finish the electrical. Any good electrican in the Oakland/SF bay area HHHHHEEEELLLLPPPP..........

Can't help you in person (NJ). But until you find your electrician try this.
Go to Radio shack or other and but a cheapo ohm meter. Very simple to use. Disconnect your
batt. and attach the neg. cable to the black lead of the tester. Select "ohm" on the meter.
Attach an extra long piece of wire to the red lead of the tester. Now lay under your dash and
touch your "testing wire" to all of your "hot" or "positive" wires. You shouldn't have any
major needle deflections unless you touch a neg. wire. No needle deflection shows a good working system as there should be no connection between neg. and pos. You have a "short" or "shorted" component. Follow your nose and eyes. Look for melted wire and sniff around also. Good luck.
Your way Closer to V.Speedster than eather of us.

If you can find a good general VW mechanic in your ares they could straightin it out.

There are wiring diagrams in the knowledge section here. if you decide to tackle it yourself

I would try to see if Kirt Duncan at Vs Has a Colored wireing diagram . That would make it a bunch easyer.

If you have to buy a pack of color markers and retrace A copy Of the wireing diagrams
Thats what I finnaly did. and it helped me get it straight in my nooddle.
James ,

Email me direct I can probably talk you through your problem... I have used the VS harness probably 9 or so times ...and yes if you get fouled up you can removed the electrical tape near the fuse box to confirm that you have the correct wire in hand..what I have done in that situation is replace the tape with a loose fitting zip tie so it still keeps the harness intact
