Hello,
I am going to get an electronic ignition and I need a bit of advice. I like the Hot Spark one because it is cheaper

But the CompuFire because I have heard more about.

Is the CompuFire that much better?

BTW it is going on my 1776 with dual carbs.

This was TOTALLY covered not too long ago ! ! ! This post is kinda like the "Which wheels and tires will fit inside the wheel wells of my Karmann Ghia?" posts on The Samba.

There are only four answers to the electronic ignition question, each one the near equivalent of the other.

I refuse to list them AGAIN . . . we need a decent search engine.
Many units are available if you already have a distributor

I've used all 3 of these point/condenser eliminator products with a Bosch coil with great success.

When installing any of these products, it's important to clean the inside base of your distributor with 4x steel wool and use loctite on the retaining screw. I've had several instances on customer cars were the plate was loose and caused intermittant ignition problems.

I do like the Compufire with the coil packs but don't forget to buy the tachometer module.

If you're not interested in their coil pack model, then the point eliminator works just fine with your Bosch coil.

All of the basic point/condenser modules will trigger your tach without any add on devices.
I go with Pertronix also. Put Pertronix 1 in five years ago, replaced it with a II with matching coil two years ago and it hasn't skipped a beat.
I did however get a bad Pertronix II unit which crapped out on me in MD.
As I stowed the five year old original in the tool bag, did a ten minute swap on the side of the road and drove all the way home!
larry, your right, they all work, i just found the pertronix unit to have awesome silicone wires, and better construction of the magnets, better connectors, and rubber gromet. I've also installed all of them, even the empi one (i think it's a compufire sold by empi) and they all work flawlessly, i just have a personal preference to the construsction of the pertronix.
