So the speedster is almost mechanically sound, so now the search has started for the scripts/ badges and emblems.

I've tried Sierra Madre, VS and KLASSE 356 as well as NLA Limited.

I'd like to shop around between these guys and buy the cheaper parts from each one, but overseas shipping kills me as it's about $30-$40 on each order, not bad if I do it at one place, but between 3 places it gets pricey.

Now I'm looking for the following.

Porsche script x 2 front and rear
Super 1600 rear
speedster x 2
Porsche script for the dash.

Now the only place I can get the whole lot at is SM and it's over $300 without S & H.

Can anyone offer some advice?

When I had ordered from Klasse356 few years ago they were out of stock and shipped couple items a month later. They just moved to larger place so may not be a problem now. I'm sure if you tell him to hold items for shipping until they are all in, you can do one shipment. If I recall their catalog wouldn't flip to second page for pricing info - I emailed Jim with the items I wanted and he promptly emailed me back with prices. Excellent to deal with. Other thought is to find someone in U.S. willing to accept your partial orders and rebox when all arrive on to you. This might make customs easier as it could be recorded as a gift and perhaps avoid pesky taxes.
Move?

Move from South Africa? Oh HELL no.....lol. pretty much 365 days a year that I can drive my speedy, even in the middle of winter, I can drop the top and just wear a beanie when I drive.....plus the labour rate this side of the globe to rebuild a 2.0 914 engine is about 1/3 of what you guys pay.....lol.

I'm having a look at stoddard now......I've pretty mucg decided to go with KLASSE356, but it doesn't harm to look around some more.

Gary, I'm based in the U.K England, and have ordered quite a few parts from Jim at Klasse, and have had what I can only describe as excellent service. I have also used Vintage and the service was equally impressive. Even with the cost of shipping and import tax, the saving I made was really worth it. Good luck with your project
Thanks Darren

Yup, I've decided to go with Jim as his prices seem to be the best and the fact that he actually took the effort to get back to me says a lot, Vintage seemed to be up there too, but there is too much that they don't have, what they do have is cheaper, but ordering from two places will cost me more in the long run.

Thanks for the input, if all goes well, I'll place my order this Friday.

Cheers

I think all the PORSCHE emblems and scripts are actually made by licensed Porsche AG companies --- I don't think there are boot legged emblems --- save the old no-longer produced ones on the TAIWAN hub caps. So quality would be the same - its just cost and service that would be variable. Could easily be wrong --- there maybe inferior CHINA POSRCHE shields out there.
i just got my hood emblem from KLASSE 356 after 6 (yes SIX!) attempts through STODDARD and NLA over a 6 month period.

best price too.

edit: in response to my post above - i thought you rwrote the $300 was for shipping. $300 for the emblem isnt that bad. i paid $60 for one carrera emblem alone.
I wasn't saying anything negative about Klasse and I'm sorry if it appeared that way. In fact I have bought from almost all of the vendors at some point. Some have sent me crap. I think it is the individual pieces that are sometimes not as good. Make sure they have a good return policy. You get what you pay for in service or no service....that is what I meant.

Sierra Madre is a NO.
Well I went with Jim and have been very impressed so far.

He gave me advice when I ordered a few *incorrect* items as I based most of it on price alone, not if the part is correct for my car.

We mailed each other to and fro a few times and with the exception of the porsche emblem, he has my order complete and ready to go, I have about a 1-2 week wait on the front and rear emblem, but that's all good, I've been waiting 2 years for this a week or two isn't going to make a difference.

My reason for choosing Klasse was simple. Jim actually got back to my questions, 3 other companies saw South Africa and just didn't reply I guess.

:-(

The main reason for going with Jim was that he has everything that I need, he was a bit more expensive on a few items, but that was fine with me. VS also impressed me, but they didn't have the porsche scripts, otherwise I would have tried them, I will be going to VS for my mirror and rear licence plate light though.

From what I've learnt it appears that the porsche script is made under licence from porsche and is in fact a genuine item.

I could have ordered the whole lot from Porsche South Africa, but then the price would have been almost $1000.00. This all has cost me about $380.00.

Just thought that I'd give everyone an update on this.

My stuff from Jim arrived this afternoon, great quality, great guy to work with, he's not the cheapest out there and there was a price mark-up when I ordered, but I'd deal with him again, just for the pure fact that it was pretty hassle free and the fact that he was willing to work with a South African over the web.

The only thing that I had to wait on was my front and rear porsche script, I ended up taking chrome and a local plater friend of mine is going to gold plate them for me. ( I just couldn't wait any longer)

I'll buy from him again..............
