Hey gang,

A few questions:

Did original speedsters come with an emergency flasher? I'm making a list of how I would like my future Beck and one thing would be a 57' steering column and turn signal switch. I think I would have to relocate the flasher mechanism but I wasn't sure if the real speedsters had them. I'd like to hide the switch as I want to make it look as authentic as possible. i.e. under dash e-brake, authentic looking pedals and board, floor mounted dimmer, etc...

Any thoughts?

Jeff

I had a 57 VW and had to add seatbelts.  Nope no flasher then - didn't even have a fuel gauge in VW.

I've seen people weld in the collapsible part and I've seen people put in double u-joints on the frontside of the firewall to the steering box. If you want to get fancy, run a 914 steering rack and hook up a superbeetle u-joint linkage to it.

wiring in a flasher can be a bit of a challenge.. you need to run a diode to both sides ie left and right signal lights  other wise you will mess up your turn signals.. when I wire mine up originally when I turned on my left signal my front left would work but both rear would come on.. when I turned right the right rear would come on but both front signals would blink. Adding a diode to each circuit solved the problem.  But if you are having Beck build the car that wont be an issue that you will need to worry about.
