Still, I think the problem with the HPMX isn't design, but execution.

Like most things EMPI, the devil's in the quality control. Yeah, HPMX's are good - if you get two good ones, and if you go through them, clean up all the burrs and junk, ease up the parts that don't quite move right, replace any wonky gaskets, and straighten out the things that should have been straight.

Why do I think it won't be any different with EMPI Dells?

To be honest, isn't that about the case with ANY new carburetor?

I have always taken the time to go through any new carb when I first receive it - Weber, Solex, Bing, Mikuni (well, maybe not the Mikis), Holly, even my Dells.  I've always found something not up to snuff - usually it was a float level not set right, but there have been all those other thngs you wrote of, too.  It just makes a lot of sense to go through them, whatever they are, before you put them in the car and make sure they're right and doing what you want.  A little more time on the front end saves a LOT of time later on.

So who's going to be the first to try out a pair of EMPI/Dells??

I'd try them in a heartbeat.

However, I've got a set of 40s, a set of 45s and two sets of 48s in my stash. I think I'm good.

... although, some 36s would be kind of fun to try on a little motor...

All you guys running Kads on 1776s and 1915s have no more excuses for poor gas mileage and soggy performance. EMPI or no, these carbs are bound to be an order of magnitude better.

My 1915 is really enjoying my Dell 36 DRLAs.
