Seems EMPI will soon be releasing a copy of the Dellorto carb.
Should be interesting. Here's a link to the thread on SAMBA:

I love my original Del's, just set em and forget em should be their motto. Remember with EMPI, you get what you pay for....
Yeah, I was thinking that, too.
They got serious about HPMX, and they're good carbs. If I had a choice between Italian Webers and a decent quality Dellorto copy, it wouldn't be a choice-- Dells are just better.
Still, I think the problem with the HPMX isn't design, but execution.
Like most things EMPI, the devil's in the quality control. Yeah, HPMX's are good - if you get two good ones, and if you go through them, clean up all the burrs and junk, ease up the parts that don't quite move right, replace any wonky gaskets, and straighten out the things that should have been straight.
Why do I think it won't be any different with EMPI Dells?
To be honest, isn't that about the case with ANY new carburetor?
I have always taken the time to go through any new carb when I first receive it - Weber, Solex, Bing, Mikuni (well, maybe not the Mikis), Holly, even my Dells. I've always found something not up to snuff - usually it was a float level not set right, but there have been all those other thngs you wrote of, too. It just makes a lot of sense to go through them, whatever they are, before you put them in the car and make sure they're right and doing what you want. A little more time on the front end saves a LOT of time later on.
So who's going to be the first to try out a pair of EMPI/Dells??
I'd try them in a heartbeat.
However, I've got a set of 40s, a set of 45s and two sets of 48s in my stash. I think I'm good.
... although, some 36s would be kind of fun to try on a little motor...
All you guys running Kads on 1776s and 1915s have no more excuses for poor gas mileage and soggy performance. EMPI or no, these carbs are bound to be an order of magnitude better.

My 1915 is really enjoying my Dell 36 DRLAs.
I wonder if the EMPI's will say "Made in Italy" on them.
I can't afford the Italian Driving Gloves so I proudly point to my Italian carburetors.
Of course, a pair of Snake Skin gloves, well........
I'm interested in the 36s for my Thing, but I'll wait for a while to see what the quality is like.
Meanwhile, I'm just about ready to start installing my 40 IDFs (from Aircooled.net) and SyncLink carb linkage on my dune buggy.
props to empi for helping keep the hobby alive, but holy **** - they copy everything!
This kind of blatant copy of a proven design is masquerading behind international copyright laws. franky pisses me off more than it should.
So the bay has Dell 40s all day for $400 a pair. And then there's these. For $63.15.
Something about this does not feel right.
