Looking at changing out the rusting chrome slots on my CMC to something different.

Are there pics of Speedsters running various wheels?

Maybe its time to format this site where such searches are available--just an idea hey?? Breaking it into folders where you could find specific repairs, color combos, gauges, steering wheels, etc would be helpful.

I'm liking the EMPI Sprintstars I found on EBAY  /EMPI-SPRINTSTAR-WHEELS-5-X-15-4X130-BLACK-POLISH (ebay # 231121682286)

Any chance anyone has pics with these on their Speedster????

Given that I have the typical tight driver side rear clearance moving into these will not create and more clearance issues right? So as this Ohio weather gets warm I will be taking it to an alignment shop to have the camber reset and new bushings installed followed by a 4 wheels alignment.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions on camber and toe settings.

My car is currently Ivory

Thanks,

It looks like they have  3.5" backspacing.  I have a chart that converts backspacing to offset, but it only shows 5.5" or wider wheels.  The Sprints are 5" wide, so best guess, since 5.5" wide wheels have a 6mm offset, is a 5" wheel, with  3.5" backspacing, would have an offset of 12mm.

Check the offset of your present wheels.  If it's 12mm or less you'll be okay.  If your present wheels have an offset that is larger than 12mm you may have a clearance problem.

As a side note, Cip1 also has a SS Super Speed wheel in your bolt pattern, and it has a higher offset (25mm).

A wheel with a 12mm offset would stick out 0.5" farther compared to a wheel with a 25mm offset.

I like these wheels and would love to see how they look on a speedster.

This is a good link for comparing offset and tire size.

What rims do you have now?  Stock VW is 4" or 4.5" but chrome Mangels are common too in 4.5" or 5.5."  Stock VW offset changed by year but the popular 4.5" has a 34mm offset. Offset is often stamped on back of rim as ET34.

Thanks Wolfgang for the youtube link--confirmed the procedure that I was planning on using but the explanation focusing on the mounting surfaces was very technical and informative. Will be pulling off a wheel Sunday when it gets to 30*--today in Akron its 0* with  windchill at -15--yuk! I have the correct tools and will look for the stamped numbers on the inner rim. I will also upload pics of disc brake setup with measurements of rotor--looks deeper on rear than fronts.

Currently I have 15" steel chrome slots just not sure of the offset. Still have to get the serial # off the pan so I know what year it is but I do know it is IRS.

Wrenched on VW's, British Leyland, and Toyota's in the late 70's then went to college (Science Teacher) so I do have some basics and maybe a bit above--just getting back into it so I do look for help from the knowledgeable guys (Like Bill--funny dude ) here on this forum.

Looking to cruise at 65mph all day long with Speedy and do some traveling out of state so I want some piece of mind with a solid platform so the tow truck doesn't find me--lol. Have not driven the car yet since it sat so long when I got it. Thanks
