Hi Guys, not sure if anyone has measured this but I'm interested in what temperature the engine bay runs at. Not the engine itself. I've found a halon free automatic extinguisher that releases at 79C. It'll be easier to install than a cable controlled system and is good for 5 yrs. I'm planning to use the turkey thermometer to get an idea but wondered if anybody had those numbers.

79C is 174F

Your engine runs anywhere between 180F and 220F (82C to 104C) so it's difficult to determine how much radiant heat, air flow and air transfer is in your engine bay.

Try putting a thermometer in your engine bay and go for a spirited drive. Another problem is when the weather gets hot so does your engine and your engine bay so maybe you need to wait until you have a record hot day then take the heat measurement.
