I just bought a 57 speedster repilca. The previous owner said it is an Intermeccanica. I have no reason to doubt him however I can't seem to find any markings except an Ill. state vehicle # badge on the inside of the driver side door. Anyway, the car is pretty clean except the engine bonnet doesn't seem to fit quite right. It has even gapping all around however the edge sits about a quarter inch higher than the body right between where the hinges are. Does anyone have any info or ideas? And can anyone tell me how to tell exactly what kind of speedster it is? My guess on the bonnet is that it is from a different kit than the rest of the car. Thanks, Mickey

The early Intermeccanicas (pan based) were built with the hand brake on the tunnel. The later cars (tube frame) have the parking brake mounted to the driver's side of the tunnel, forward of the driver's seat, close to the floor. Some of the recent cars, post '01 had the underdash hand brake mounted under the dash at the request of the client.

Intermeccanica has been building cars since the mid-seventies and there have been many design changes. One thing that has been fairly consistant (I think, nothing is 100% in the business) is the "IM" or other designator on the front hood or engine lid hinge castings. Of course these may have been replaced or placed on other cars as replacements.
