I did not even think about grey, and this sent me on an Google expedition and I came up with the following info about engine colours:

http://porsche356registry.org/resources/tech-articles/research-and-identification/97-fan-shroud-colors.html

From the above link the grey colour code is:
"Sherwin-Williams Lt. Charcoal 35-3268600 Code: M5683A. Used on 1985 Fords. It is a special mix not available in a rattle can."

Since I already had my alternator stand, alternator, fan plate, air-con bracket, and hinge brackets powdercoated grey so I think I will have the paint supplier match that colour for the engine tins. Darker than the P colour but I think it will still work out nicely.

I would powdercoat the fan shroud but I have to do a bit of body work hiding the blocked off heater holes and bondo cannot go in the powdercoat oven.

The all grey look should go well with the aluminium engine compartment.

Thanks for the suggestion
Normally I would say black or original Porsche gray, but I've done some body color matched tins lately, and I really liked how they turned out, so I'd say go ivory.
I am doing a hammertone set now for a spyder. I'll be picking them up from the powdercoater this afternoon and will have to shoot some photos. I have high hopes for the hammertone look, we'll see...
Just for the record, there is a powdercoating compatible bondo. There is also body-work done with JB weld-bond. It will also stand the heat of the powder coating oven. When we built the spyder, we had to modify the tank as it didn't clear the hood. Steve did the bodywork with JB Weld-bond and then had the tank powder coated.

Still looks new.

Just got my pieces back from Awesome Powdercoating (gloss black). They do good work. I ordered several replacement pieces after reading how the standard "knock-off" pieces do NOT have some of the pieces to direct cooling air that the original pieces have. I also had them add a thermostat/mounting bracket and the vanes in a new fan housing to my order. Their website has good info and an almost infinite number of colors.
