Wow! Nice job! Makes it really look finished, and should reduce the noise a lot. What's the material you used?

Does the foil-backed material extend up under the cowl (over the engine) or is it just on the vertical walls?

Is that an additional frame support member diagonally along the passenger side?

And what's that little "L" shaped thing sitting next to the CV boot at the hub?

Questions, questions.....

I bought it at the local VW shop (Roy Rogers). The backing is a mat like the kind used under the carpets in American cars with a foil facing. The backing is realy tough, about 3/8 in thick. I went to Lowes (hardware store) and bought some foil tape that is used on furnace ducts. I used it to cover exposed backing and to seal around the edges. It blends into the foil facing and seals the backing from oil. I also added some nice VW style pinch moldingaround the fan opening.

Yes, it covers all walls, all the way up to the opening. I will post a couple more pics to show that tonight. I have a 912 engine and the tin makes a perfect fit around the lower opening so my engine compartment is sealed top from bottom. Jeff wins the prize.

Since the Porsche engine has a support that attached to the rear frame of the car (I call it the d-ring) extra support is needed to prevent rear body sag. My car is older and with the weight of the engine had already shown signs of it. I added a loop in front of the firewall (you can see the wooden buck in the air intake in the before shot, ithe final steel one blends in in the after shot)and the and the supports run from there to the rear of the frame. I then added adj. links up to the torsion housing area. Problem solved.

I also have Porsche 914 brakes. That is the arm that holds the Ebrake cable. Very observant.
Just don't leave it out the sun with your head in there too long! Reminds me of those tanning collars you used to see pictures of folks using.

Seriously though it looks nice and I was thinking of doing something similar. Especially now that I've been removing sheet metal and powder coating it and that I've made a new carbon fiber fan shroud. Its hard to stop!
