What are some ideas on setting up, and sealing off the engine compartment on an old IM?

How big are the gaps in your engine bay?
Take it to Roland Rascon. He can come up with all the cool ideas on yours then I'll take mine to him after. Are you reading this Roland? This is a humorous plug for your business which will require you to give me a steep discount...
Check the FF/CMC build manual in the SOC LIBRARY to see how they do it. You do need some air intake entry above the flywheel area. The H shaped '72 up VW bus engine seal foam will fill 3/4" or so gaps.
The gaps are pretty big. I'll take some measurements and let you know.
A picture is worth a thousand words! Post a couple of pics to give a better perspective of what you're dealing with. Then stand back and all kinds of responses will come your way!
You're absolutely right. I'm going to try to send some tomorrow.
Right off the bat, it seems the engine is sitting below sow type of square
frame structure. When I got the car, it came with this wide rubber type mat.
It didn't look like it was doing it's job.
Check the CMC Build manual in the Library Page V-11 Figure 9. You'll need to make the parts shown in the drawing. They were supplied by CMC in fiberglass but you can make from 1/16" aluminum or other thin rigid material. I found old fiberglass sign for the two smaller side pieces that apparently were in my supplied kit. Use card board to make the template.
