I don't know the technical name of what I'm describing, but maybe you can help me. On the Speedsters and bugs, the top of the engine is separated from the lower portion. I'm guessing that this has something to do with heating by keeping the exhaust heat away from the upper tins. I would also assume that it prevents water from splashing up onto the distributor.

Are those the purposes? Are there other purposes for those pieces?

It's summer vacation, so I'm finding more projects on my speedster. I'm going to end up making the pieces to go in there, and I want to make sure that they work properly -- but first I have to know what it's supposed to do.

Thanks.

Adam, The engine tin or shrouding is all about keeping the hot air below and the cooler air
on top. With out this separation you would be recirculating heated air over the cylinders
when the car was standing still. Whatever you mock up remember that you have to have a flexible joint between the engine tin and the engine compartment shelf/floor to allow for
engine movement.
