If you seen my other thread , you know i picked up a cmc 356. With it looks like a stock vw motor.. ID# AE073828 .. will check that later. question is.. i ran a compression test.. #1 - 130lb / #2 - 170 lb / #3 - 145lb / #4 - 130 lb.

I'm thinking a stuck valve on #2 ? .. been sitting for many years

do you think i need to rebuild it?

thanks folks

will get pics late tomorrow, can't figure out how to get them off my phone.

If you take valve covers off and rotate crank, you'll see if valves are opening and closing.  A little Marvel Mystery Oil (okay a 1/4 jug) in each cylinder (thru spark plug hole) might free stuck parts up.  Some claim AT fluid and Kerosene does the same thing.

Could be a single rocker arm off/loose, broken spring, dropped valve seat, or collapsed spring.  Some say just sitting valves collapse. Expect hidden rust on cylinders/rings.  Unless you want to keep car and put money into it - I'd install and fire it up and see what you have.  Taking heads off would give clear idea of what you have as you can measure valves and cylinder bore.

Windoz 10 now links with my Iphone and makes it easy to access photo on phone.

Skip the penetrating oil - the only good stuff is "PB Blaster" but go, instead, for a 50-50 mix of automatic transmission fluid and acetone, then liberaly spray the valve stems.  Go away for a day or so and then see if the stems have freed up.  If not, re-spray and wait another day and repeat until they free up.  This stuff works well sprayed into the cylinders, too, to loosen up rusted rings, but Marvel Mystery Oil works well there, too, and seems less caustic to the cylinder walls.
