My engine stops while I am driving but starts up easily after only a brief stop. It then drives fine for about 5 mins then cuts out again as if I was suddenly without fuel. Someone suggested it could be vapor lock and advised me to add dry gas because it might be condensation. This hasn't help. Any ideas ?

David, I had the same problem with my IM. Turned out that the fuel lines were running very close to the engine block and when the engine warmed up, it would vaporize the fuel in the lines. Made the car feel like it was out of gas. After sitting for a while it would start back up and run until the engine got hot again. I could not venture vary far from home, due to it cutting out on me all the time.

Took it to my mechanic and he reran the fuel lines away from the engine block and used insulation on the fuel lines to prevent them from getting to hot. Since then, I have been on two and three hour drives with no cut out problems. Check your fuel lines and make sure they are not running near any hot parts of the block or heads.

Hope this solves your problem.

Put a clear glass gas filter right before the carb(s). (I prefer the glass over the cheap plastic ones - nothing will make ya cry quicker than a toasted crispy engine!) Ya can check it to see if it is empty then when it stops. Could be vapor lock - can you go further in am or at night than heat of day? There is an insulating wrap for the fuel lines that will shield it. Could be weak fuel pump, cloughed air vent for gas tank (loosen cap) or rust/trash in gas tank too.
