Thanks for all the advice. I have a guy that is going to rebuild the carb tomorrow so we should see if that takes care of the problems. In the last few days I have:
Changed fuel lines
Replaced fuel filters
Checked points again
Rechecked gap on brand new plugs
Replaced plug wires
Oil Change
Oil Screen
Valve Adjustment and gaskets

After this I should be good to go?!?!?!?
Hi Guys,

I think I just started experiencing this problem today, but I'm not positive. Here's the story.

Car was fine... got me to destination. On the way home entire car would shake (shutter?) as I shift up around the 2-3k RPM range. Then it would be fine again.. then again once I get to the next gear. However it seems to be fine if a SLOWLY accelerate through the RPM range.. And I mean SLOWLY. aka. Don't do it on the freeway. Otherwise entire car would shake violently.

The car idles fine.. and I can rev it through the RPM ranges smoothly while in neutral.

Does this sound like the same problems you guys experienced?

And does anyone know of a mechanic in Houston? For the 4th largest city, not a single VW guy on the Shops section?
Kevin,

I am aware of 5 or 6 Spyder owners in the Houston area as well as a couple of other Speedster owners. Virtually all of us have ended up doing our own engine work, or assisting each other. Most recently Jeff's Bugs downtown has closed with no obvious successor. Also, ASK, now known as KAR has moved and I have not been to their new location. That said, you might want to try calling KAR, the number I have for them is 713-780-1331, but that may well have changed with their move. They are a parts supply company but they are very active in the VW community and may be able to point you toward a repair person.

As to your problem, it sounds like your carbs are out of sync, but you also might have a bad fuel pump...they tend to fail quickly and yielding symptoms sort of in the fashion you describe..... if your car has the VW mechanical pump....

If you don't find someone to work on your car drop me a note off line and we will see what else might be possible... jdubois77354(AT)comcast.net
