Want to share ... I used a spring loaded plunger pin from McMaster-Carr to hold my engine deck lid in the up position.  I know this has been discussed and done before, but this is my approach.  The spring loaded plunger can be twisted to lock in the retracted position or it can be left unlocked after retracting and the spring action will pop it into place automatically when the lid is fully lifted.

I believe that the original pin/pin hole on VS and CMC's could be easily modified for this plunger.  If the hole in the bracket (or the hinge arm) was drilled and tapped for the 3/8-16 threaded body of the plunger, the nose of the plunger will fit into the existing 3/16 hole in the opposite part.  Hope this all makes sense!
