It's ben a long winter. Still haven't worked on my I.M.C. or have finished the 64 ghia project. I'm in the middle of a lengthy M.G.A. resto. Every inch of the body needed work.We finally painted it, and are in the middle of the reassembly project. I will send some pics next week. My new question is, how do I find out if the motor in the ghia is the right one.The engine numbers are, B63899718. Is there anyone out there who has the dates of the production on the motors THEY USED IN 1964?

SAMBA has some info - from chart there it looks like a '70 Ghia or T1 engine.

1600 cc Single Port?
I've got an F-series case (1966) if you want to talk. Though I guess that doesn't get any more "originality" points than a 1970 mill.
Thanks,
It's a single port motor, which is why I thought it might be of the right age. With the 356 Porsches, which I have some experience with, I have some charts which the actual time period that motor was made and the appropriate body which it went into. Do you think samba might have chart?
I forgot to mention that one of my customers is trying to sell a ghia convertible. He claims it's a 1979. Did they still make them that year? If anyone is interested I will send you his phone number when I get to work on monday.
They stopped making the Ghia in 74
1979 was the last year for the VW bug at least in the US. They continued to make the bug in Mexico and some made it to the US after they got all smogged up.
Wasn't the late (1979) convertiblemade in Karmann Rheine factory - perhaps that's what he meant?
