I know there would be different times as everyones cars would be a little different in weight ect. but has anyone gotten a general idea of what HP / Top Speed / 0-60 Times would be with each of the different engine sizes? Say someone was to drop a 2110cc engine into their speedster... what would be the expected HP/Top Speed/0-60 times for this size of engine?

Engine Sizes:
1600
1641
1776
1835
1914
1904
2110
2180
2275
ect.

My IM (2275cc-fuel injected) was dynoed at 125 whp (on a Dynojet, which usually reads on the low side), so somewhere in the 145 hp range at the crank. The only comparison I can make is on a trip I took with one of my old Miata buddies. On a deserted mountain highway he took off, going up a hill, and I gave chase (3rd gear). Over the next mile or so I was able to catch and slowly pass him.
His Miata is a 1992 (1600cc) and is supercharged. He figure he puts out around 135-145 whp.

My IM has had the following engines:
1600(stock) ridiculously slow-hated it
1776 (mild) adequate, but I soon wanted more
2110 now this is more like it!
2276 decent power and lots of torque (which is what I wanted)

"Not to mention vehicle weight, driver's ability, etc. Not sure the question is really realistic."

There has to be a general idea or rule of thumb on each of the engines in this vehicle type? I can tell you what the HP/Torque/Speeds on flat and up hill would pretty much be in a 6.2NA - 6.5TD - Cummins - D-max H1 Hummer... and of course everyone's rigs are a little differ due to weight ect. but they would be pretty well in the ball park.

If someone said I want a speedster to run on a track at 100-115mph all day long and be able to power out of a turn pretty well there has to be an answer as to what engine/gearing choices would be best?

Maybe this is more of a builders question then? Someone ought to be able to say xxxxCC engine will produce about xx HP/ do 0-60 in about this and top out at xxxMPH w/ this gearing, right?
These are common N/A estimates. It really depends on the build combo. If you've got a combo you'd like to know about, ask in the forums at thesamba.com or shoptalkforums.com. As long as you are specific about the parts, they can usually get a pretty close estimate.

1600 50-80 HP
1776 75-105 HP
1914 85-120 HP
2110 105-150 HP
2180 115-160 HP
2275 125-180 HP
I drove my 1957 oval window VW sedan home from where I bought it back in 1967. 36HP (very stock and very tired) engine.

0 to 60 was, like......NEVER!
It would have had to be one hell of a steep hill to get that thing over 60! Maybe if the driver and passenger rocked forward and back in their seats during the acceleration run?

With Pearl and her 2,110? Dunno. I'll have to get Chris with his fancy wristwatch and we'll go for a ride and find out.
My 1776 is warmed up a bit with CB heads and balanced crank. It goes fine and strong to 85, I have not had a great road to go any faster. It would hit 100, but it would not be pulling out of any corners with any authority, expecially at 100mph on Kelly all season 165s. It is a VS with 205 pound old guy so say ~1950 pounds loaded. Still for my use it is a perfect combo and has perfect gearing. When I kill it I'll go a little crazy Im sure. So far 4 months and no tickets either.
I have a 2424cc Type IV (172.5 bhp) and a Jim Sartwell Race Cars mutt gearbox with ALL the tricks; 0-60 in 5.2 seconds at an airport with a radar gun; 1/8-mi. track, 9.8 sec. at 108 mph. Wet weight is 1,152 lbs.

The car has taken YEARS to make it street driveable. It's a beast, and cost me a fortune. I'd go with a 2332 turbo and a Rancho gearbox if I was to do it over again. I have a hard time keeping up with Kelly Frazer's JPS on fun roads because mine doesn't like to corner worth a damn.

This is turning into "how fast have you gone in your Speedster"

Mine dynoed at 142 MPH ---that's DYNOED which removes the effect of
parasitic drag of the car when on the road moving into the wind, so I don't know how fast it really would go on the open road. I have had it up to 95 and it was rock solid with a L-O-T of pedal left. Still, 90 is a crazy speed for me and I won't do that again.

For me, cruzin' down the interstate at 75-80 is what I enjoy most.

Next to the knuckleheads on this great site, that is.

Vintage Spyder, 1450 pounds, type1 2165cc Raby motor with 170+ hp. 3.44:1 final with stock gears 1-4.

0-60, never really timed it, but super quick. 1/4, don't know that either.

It likes to interstate cruise at 70-90, feels really planted. 110 still comfortable, until you think about going SPLAT!

I have seen 125, once, two up on the interstate. Bye, bye, Mitsubishi! Still rock solid there too. I was only a little above 5000 at that speed, with another 1500 rpm to go, still pulling, but I really don't want to die anytime soon.......

Original Spyders did 131mph on the Mulsanne straight at LeMans, with 110 horsepower, 1100 pounds, and 4" bias ply tires, back in the 50s. Those guys were NUTS!
MG TD replica on a '69 Beetle pan. Old Skool (F-series 1300 cc case; circa 1966) with 34 Pict 3 carb, single port heads. Probably a 1500 or 1600 now but very modest. Probably makes 45-50 horse power.

Car weighs about 1600 lbs. 0-60 timed a bit over 22 seconds, going up hill and with a passenger, short-shifting. She could do it in 18.5, easy. I'll run a dynolicious on it again soon and update.

Car cruises at 70-75 without fuss. I have gone as fast as 80 mph on a two-lane rural route and then thought better of it, though I had room under my foot.

There is no Speedster in existence with as little grunt as my car has, and it's still enough to get you in trouble, if trouble's where you're wanting to go.
