That does seem to be quite the variance- welcome to wonderful world of Bernie Bergman shroud ownership. To accurately tell what's going on I think you'd need a head temperature gauge and senders under the plugs of all 4 cylinders. Front to back temps will be different as well as side to side. Did you read the Samba link I posted in the other thread about the guy's experience trying to get the Bergman shroud to cool evenly over all 4 cylinders?

Here is the deal. If you already have a Bergman fan setup and have been driving and using it with no issue then motor on. The damage normally presents as premature engine wear which may mean getting 20-30 thousand miles out of your engine instead 60-80 thousand miles. If you plan on driving your Speedster 20-30 thousand miles in the next 5 years you may consider changing it unless you already have 10k on the engine with the 911 style fan shroud. I think the 911 style setup looks awesome and you may be in a situation to just enjoy it as is. We already have enough things to worry about and spend our money on. The comments are based on my own experience, your results may vary.

Have a Bergman shroud and just put temp gun on exhaust coming out of heads on bother sides.  Fast idled engine for 20 minutes and found left side 220 and right 190.  I don’t think I really got it to operating temp but the 30 degree variance?  Is that a concern?

I agree with Jimmy V. RE: engine wear.

However, you need to remember that a 20 minute fast idle is NOT up to temperature. The only way to get it up to temperature is to drive it for 15-20 minutes IN WARM WEATHER. It may never warm up fully in the winter, so check your temps after it's ACTUALLY warmed up in warm weather and not until then. Any info you think you have now is a waste of time, especially in the colder areas.

Why the factory thermostat system with flaps works so well. It helps the motor reach operating temperature quicker.
