I am sure everybody that has a Spyder knows this. How do the major kit builders mount the Type 1 engine and transaxle? The Formula Vee guys don't have any frame back there so they can't mount them like the original cars. It would seem to be handy to have a mount at the front of the engine but of course it wouldn't have been used by VW. So ???

Late model engine cases, I believe, come with "extra" bolt bosses around the oil pump area......This was added to allow a "rear" engine mount on later model buses......You would probably have an easier time fabricating your own bracket than trying to locate an OEM unit....Check your realestate (sp?) as this may get in the way of oil lines on a "full flow" case.....Larry??? Alan???
Nose of the transaxle & under the "bellhousing" only. You can beef up mount with a trans strap. Or, if you have a universal case, fabricate a front mount. Either will direct suspension loads better to the chassis.
I have done the latter on a Beck, bolting the mount to the torsion tube. There is a perceptable improvement in the feel of the car. Tighter and more stuck to the road. Gives you a buzz in the butt, though. There's a thread on this topic on spyderclub.
