I just bought a very nice speedster and am enjoying the bonding experience. The only thing I keep hearing is the rear window is quite small and inhibits rear vision. The IM Roadster has a much larger window in the rear which can be zipped open. Is there any way to get a VERY good boat or auto upholstery shop to enlarge the speedsters to the same or similar shape? Has anyone heard of something like this being done by anyone on here? I would really like to drive the car in very cold or very hot weather (AC..ahhhh) without worrying about not seeing Mrs Jones in her new Escalade.

James - Again, that is a VERY cool ride!

A while back I had a marine upholstery/canvas shop replace the dodger on my sailboat - and asked the same question you're asking about a car convertible top (not my Speedy). The answer is yes - and it turned out really nice!

I also got in the habit of using a cleaner/polish on that rear window to prolong its usable life (just as on the clear window panels of my dodger). Ask for it in any boat/marine supply store.

OR - keep your existing rear window as-is and put a convex mirror in the passenger side mirror

Peace - Out!
Ya ya ya.. you live in AZ.. you can see cars coming at you for two days before they get to you... I live in soccer mom world, been too many close calls to remember. I will probably never put the top up anyways, but if I want to drive it on a 90's plus day in july I think I would like to see out the back window...lol.

And what the heck is a dodger..

You tell um James. If I drive into Greensboro. it very hairy very fast.

I have the wider D back window But the convex mirrors did the trick. the flexable plastic over lay stuff from Autozone.

Especally when your trying to change lanes and the lady to your rear left wont let you in her lane. Do you risk a busted rear quarter ? No you go one more block out of your way. and hope she turned off.

Six lane oneway streets are no picnic..
Congratulations on your new purchase James! We'll have to meet up somewhere and compare notes. That roll bar looks really cool! Where did you find her at? Did you have any problems getting it registered? My Speedy is a CMC,so does not have any manufacturer's paperwork associated with it, so I have had to jump thru hoops and just managed to get it registere yesterday. I still have to wait for a NC serial number until I am supposed to drive it. Ugh! But the car is so worth it! Hope we can get together sometime! I am up in th University area - off exit 18.

Haven't registered mine yet, but fortunately the guy who first owned the car did some heavy lifting and got it registered and titled in SC as a 1958 Porsche Speedster...the second owner transfered it and titled it as the same thing... so I just need to transfer it into my name and I am done... can even get antique plates for it...which I think i am going to do. I know.. its not antique..

Hey Mark, the Charlotte VW Transporter show is this weekend up at Keffer VW in Huntersville.. you want to check it out. If so I can meet you up there and we can say hello. I have never been but I read there is a few 356 and other porsche's that show up.. its all aircooled stuff but mostly vans I think... had one when I was a kid.. went trekking all over the continent in it...
