I can't believe how long its been since I last posted here...
I first attempted this project about 5 years ago but just didn't have the spare time to see it through...
Now its become my day job, i've spent some time developing an all-new design of LED rear lights for our 356 replicas (and 12Volt originals).
My prototype is up-and-running so I thought it was time to reveal what i've been up to.
My lighting board slots in between the rear housing and rubber seal, with the wires feeding through the existing outer bayonet hole.
There are 3 LEDs for the indicators, 3 LEDs for the brake (also used for the tail light), plus one LED dedicated to the tail light.
These are all high performance SMD devices with 120 degree field of view.
The indicators and brake lights are extra bright during the day for better visibility, and dimmer at night to avoid dazzling other road users.
Four LEDs illuminate the small tail light lense to ensure that the car is as visible as is possible. (I don't like the fact that the latest culayer unit only has a single led for the tail light)
It doesn't require any additional wires than those used by the existing bulbs.
I can configure these for USA style lighting too (red outer leds with combined brake/ signal).
Picture of the board:
Quick video of it in "demo mode". iPhone is performing a certain amount of auto exposure and i'm filming under a very bright light to try and compensate, but you should get the idea.
