I know htis is probably a pretty basics question, but here it goes anyway. Does an extractor/header meean better performance? I currently have a hide-away system with a header that needs to be replaced. While it alwas did the job I really like with the Eurotuck system from Midamerica. The other option I was considering is the Trimill style from Vintage. AS always any input is appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

The Tri-mil is a good system; I believe it's fairly non-restrictive as it's 1-1/2" and it gives out a throaty sound very much reminiscent of the old 356's. I just installed one in my car and it sounds great. One caveat though, I've noticed that the version sold by Vintage Speedsters is modified to fit their Speedster replicas; Jjr sold me a new unit he bought after finding out it wouldn't clear the back apron on his CMC. Since he didn't want to cut it I ended up buying it from him. YOu should first check with them to make sure it fits your make of car. If by any chance you buy the regular production model available for Bugs, Ghias, Buses, etc. it's not guaranteed that it will fit either although I've heard the ones for Speedsters are the same as for Buses. I've noticed that on mine the tailpipes are sort of facing a little down and not totally horizontally with the car.
Thanks for all the replies. I talked to Kirk at Vintage and he was unsure as to wether or not the exhaust would fit. I was wondering about the EMPI GT system sold through JC Whitney. It looks like the Trimil, but hass a header attached to it. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it

Thanks,
Chris
That's the same one as the OEM VW of Mexico and I had it in my car. It's fairly restrictive; if you have a close to stock displacement it's alright. It looks close to the original 356 systems but it won't support bigger engines (such as my 1915) so that's why I switched. If you have a higher performing engine than stock it's probably a good idea to go to a dual quiet pack. Fellow member Gorodn Nichols has a nice Gene Berg header and dual quiet pack in his CMC and it fits perfectly; I suspect it'll fit great in your car too.
