can a crack in the weld connecting the header cause sputtering at top RPM or can it be the manifold not seating right(removed and replaced retorquing the heads ??

In short, yes......a wed crack in the exhaust manifold (if wide enough) can cause sputtering at very high (over 4,500) rpms.

However, if EITHER exhaust of intake manifold is not seated correctly, you'll not run smoothly - poor idle if it's an intake manifold, and popping in the exhaust along with potential mis-fire at the high end with a loose exhaust manifold.

Get those wrenches out!!
I started my hit list with the Tachometer thats been jumping around since I had it tuned,(installed the compufire in the dizzy)read in a thread to wire in 1N4004 Rectifier Diode from Radio shack .79 cents, started up, checked the tach, working find, took it out for a quicky to make sure tach is ok, guess what?? the problem I had with the missing at top rpm went away - HALAJALA. I was ready to r&r the exhaust/manifold,and pull the plugs. Has anyone have a similar fix?? Cabanaboy ~ Ready for a run!!
