Got an a1 sidewinder on a 1905 w dual webers. The sound has been really loud since I've owned it- which is fine. But in listening to other's clips on YouTube it seems mine is way more "poppier"/ raspy sounding with little to no bass tone to it.

Im wondering if it's supposed to sound like this or if something is loose to make it louder. I will go under and retighten all bolts to verify leaks but can anyone comment to the sound?

I'd love a lower tone to it. Any way to quiet it down or put more bass into it.

DUB - for audio reference, here is a short video of my previous VS with A-1 Sidewinder. It has a Magnaflow muffler which as you will hear has a great sound under acceleration and a mellow tone at cruising RPMs. Maybe the muffler on your is a Flowmaster which is noticeably louder. Otherwise, a baffle is a great idea.

Dub, you are comparing two entirely different motors. They won't sound the same...Webers vs Kadrons, cam etc.

Any pros and cons to baffles...I know the goal on my S4 is to get the charged air thru quickly so I've got a large diameter downpipe back system to open up the flow. Will a baffle sacrifice performance for sound on the speedster?

Bill, I understand it won't be apples to apples but I just want to achieve anything deeper than the brappapap-fest I've got now without having to replace the exhaust system.

When I first installed mine it was incredibly loud due, I subsequently found, to my forgetting to tighten the nuts at the front of the heads (DOH!).

The PO installed the exhaust on mine and I never went back over that part when I received it. I mostly just checked the suspension. I'm betting something possibly rattled loose or was never torqued right in the beginning...I hope for sound's sake.

Good to hear others have a mellow sound...mine sounds like a track car!

Getting baffles to fit is easier said than done, as there isn't a lot of straight pipe to work with. In one of the 9452 permutations of exhaust I've run, I built a cone out of perforated stainless steel. It was about 3" long (maybe less), and the big end was about 2-1/4" in diameter. I welded it to a header collector flange one size smaller than the exhaust, and sandwiched it between the header and the muffler side collector flange.

I pointed the cone at the muffler (inside the pipe), and the difference was astounding. The theoretical open area of the perforated cone needed to be greater than the I/D of the pipe in question in order to not be a choke point, but I still hated it because it struck me as a bandaid.

FWIW, last time I bought, Tiger wasn't using MagnaFlows any more-- he's got his own "A1" branded stainless mufflers, built along the same lines.

Yea, mine has a A1 stamped in on the muffler. I've dealt with Flowmaster and Magnaflow on my Heeps and there are no indications of either.
