I know this should go under another topic, but because I think I should know the question, I thought I should place it hear to show my ignorance.

I have a OEM muffler for my TIV 2,ol and I have to shave off a few inches of pipe to make it fit under the rear. Can I chop and re-weld the tubing, or does (should) the run be the same length on both sides. The left side (as looking at the picture) will be piped directly into the 4-to-1 flange without a run. The right side will have twice as long run before it gets to the 4-to-1 flange.

Does this make sense to cut and re-weld, or do I need to find a new solution? Will a shorter run on one side effect the flow/pressure?

Yeah, I'll bet that you already know the answer, so I'll take the "low ground" and say, "Sure, go ahead and cut it".

Will you be racing it a lot, or mostly running it on the street?

Will you be consistently holding the revs above 4500 rpm for long periods of time?

Would you be upset with a very small amount of roughness at idle, that most people would never notice?

If the answer to these is "NO", then go ahead and cut it and put it in. It'll have slightly lower pressure on the longer run side, but I really doubt that you would ever notice the difference. Once it's installed, it'll be what it is.....you can probably compensate enough with your mixture screws, anyway.

If you were racing a lot and holding high revs a lot, I might say no, but normal street running won't notice the difference.

From talking to you on the phone, I'd say chop and re-weld!
WOO-HOO!
And while you have the saw out, why don'tcha have a go at hacking both ends off, too? It makes life soooooo much more complicated!
(Seriously, for what you want -- cruising on a nice day once in a while -- I'd say you'll be fine. Just make sure they go into the collector in firing order so they scavenge well.)
