Ok, I've read all the posts on mounting the external oil cooler in the driver's side rear wheel well. They all have one thing in common, the fittings all face forward.... why?
I would think that it would be a shorter run with the oil lines to turn the oil cooler with the fittings facing to the back of the vehicle.
Any insight or thoughts?

Sure, do it.
Neither the cooler nor the hoses really care.
Just remember, that there might be less visibility and/or/access to hose connections with the cooler mounted with connections at the rear, as the body tapers down abruptly back there. If you have small hands and small tools you might be fine.
Sometimes you have to put the connection 180 degrees in the opposite direction in order to make the connection because the other way, the hose requires such an extreme bend it does or may kink. It's better to have a nice easy radius rather than a tight-restrictive bend..................Bruce
I always use AN hose and fittings. I try not to use them, but the 180 degree hose ends work well. They are expensive though, $20 each for -8 size, compared to 5-10 for straights or 45 degrees.
I do try to run lines as straight as possible, and avoid sharp bends.
Recently had a Setrab 6/25 oil cooler put on my VS. For what it's worth we put the hoses on the rear, tight fit yes. But it's all in there.
Local firm laser cut the mounting plate and deflector.

The deflector was something I worked out with the laser guys to keep the worst of the tire spin-off away from the cooler. We also put M6 threaded inserts on the bracket to simplify attaching the cooler.
@Quadmod- Yeah, those brackets are sharp! Are they .125"? I can attest to how hard 1/8" aluminum (even 5052) is to bend- I'm just finishing up a bracket to hold a supplemental automatic transmission cooler for my FJ Cruiser (3 different mounting planes) and it's not been easy, using only simple hand tools and a small vice. And ain't nut-serts the greatest thing? Gotta go to work...
Yep .125, I've done smaller cutting and bending projects at home with hand tools, but I'm not really set-up to take on something like this.
Local laser shop created the CAD drawings, cut and bent to measure... $150 out the door.
