Can anybody help me by telling me which one of the oil hoses on the picture is the one going to the external oil cooler and which one is the one coming back to the engine. Currently I have an external oil cooler without a fan, I am trying to decide if I should put a fan with thermostatic control for the times when the weather is hot. But I need to know which hose is which. I believe the thermostatic control should be put on the hose going out of the engine and going into the oil cooler. Correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry for the seemingly dumb question, as I looked at the Bentley manual for the standard VW engine does not have an external oil cooler.

Thanks

They also make a full flow version now the oil pump port is over drilled up to the main oil galley and the oil galley is also drilled over size then re plugged.

Then a oil thermostat can bolted on the exzisting oil cooler stand and the lines come off of it going straight out behind the fan shroud to the larger electricly fanned oil cooler mounted over the transmisson, that also has tha thermo switch to control the oil temp.

Its a neater more precise temp control set up.
