You can use the Magnifying Glass on this site to find more info.  Search for "oil cooler location".  Here's one:

Greg is right. There are a lot of different ways folks have handled the location of external coolers. TLDR version is a lot of us found the space in the driver's side rear wheel well to be a reasonable option. +1 on the Setrab coolers.

.

Keep in mind, there's no 'off-the-shelf' installation kit for this.

I have a Setrab in the driver's wheel well, but an experienced mechanic fabricated the mounting hardware. And putting it in the wheel well will require some protective plate or housing to protect the cooler and fan from road debris.

Setrab does offer generic mounting kits, I think, but some custom fabrication almost always needs to be done.

Should the oil filter and especially the oil cooler be relatively level with the engine oil sump?  Seems if oil cooler was mounted much higher, the oil would run back and swamp engine sump.  Some oil filter have an anti-drain valve but not all.  Since OEM sump only holds 2.5 quarts - even an addition quart would be alot.

My DeRale 16-pass cooler is located in the driver's rear wheel well and maybe 12" higher than the engine sump.   I have an additional sump of about 1.5 quarts and I add oil until it is mid-way between marks on the dipstick.  The external oil filter (Napa Gold FIL 1515 or a WIX 51515) is about even with the sump.   I've never had an issue with oil draining into the sump from the cooler and over-filling it.
