Devin bodies were  well known for Italian styling, light weight and competitiveness on the race track. The Devin design originated with an Italian car called an Ermini.

Devin bodies were custom made in 27 different sizes and many detail configurations. It was not until 1958 that Devin made the more well known Devin “D”. Devin Ds had tube frames and Porsche 356 or VW running gear. They also had no front opening and raised rear bodywork to accommodate the rear engine flat 4 fan shroud.

Not entirely true, Will.  He would sell bare bodies to anyone brave enough to undertake a build.  It was just the outer shell with no inner reinforcements or structure of any kind.  A friend of mine has one that he bought from Bill Devin years ago and is just now getting a Morgan frame built up to put under it.  The most difficult part has been figuring out the inner structure.  I'll see if I can dig up the pictures I have of the body before building started.

EDIT:  Bodies were available in several lengths and configurations (front engine, rear engine, etc.)
