2001 Intermecanicca failed it's first OH e-check. My HC (Hydrocarbon) levels and CO (Carbon Monoxide) levels are too high. My readings are below.
HC: (2500 RPM) - reading-335ppm; permitted-220ppm
CO: (2500 RPM) - reading-8.08%; permitted-1.20%
HC: (idle) - PASSED barely 197.4ppm, 220 permitted
CO: (idle) - reading-4.59%; permitted-1.20%

What do you guys think? Am I doomed?
Looks to me like I am in need of a tune-up. All suggestions will be appreciated.

Now don't laugh..

But I have a hidden Hydrogen booster on the bug. and it helps it burn cleaner. It works like Nos. and also improves hot starts.

It's a weard little doohickey I added to improve the gas mileage.. But a good tune up would be just as useful. Both will improve performance. and the booster did clean up the tail pipes..

You might want to consider it.
1) A dyno shop (expensive) might be able to tune you back into spec.

2) In addition to hydrogen, I have heard of people mixing a few cups of de-natured alcohol into their fuel.

3) Is higher octane less likely to pollute? How about octane booster?

4) Some states have an upper limit on how much money you need to spend while attempting to pass smog. After meeting that amount, you can get a free pass - this is a program to help the lower income working guy.
You need to show documentation that the engine is older than the echeck requirement. I went through this with my home built Speedy in Ohio. Its been a few years but I think I had to document the engine ID number with a picture and then using an official VW service manual prove that the engine was a 70's vintige VW motor. It was then exempt from the whole echeck scam.

Goto http://bmv.ohio.gov/registrar_email.html and ask them the question just in case my memory is fuzzy.

Good Luck,

Jerome
Turns out my car is exempt from emission standards in OH. Even though the engine is a 2002 build, the engine comes from a 1967 engine cast (confirmed by the serial number), therefore making it exempt. The Ohio EPA was, believe it or not, very helpful. It was the most painless interaction with a government agency that I have ever had and all in took me about 15 minutes. I would also like to give credit to Steinal's Porsche in Twinsburg, OH. Steinals is a Porsche specialty shop that did most of the work for me at a reasonable price. The guys there were intrigued and appreciative of my IM, and not at all condesending. They will be doing all the work on my car in the future, and anybody else in the OH area that needs help should give these guys consideration.
