Today I started my 550's leather strap fake tire holders. I first measured the length of the 3/4" leather fake Spare Tire holders for my 550 minus the aluminum half holder. Using Karl Ludvigsen's Porsche Spiders Type 550 1953-1956 book as a reference guide. Until I make an aluminum half holder mine will just wrap around part of the tube frame in front of the SE/Beck Spare Tire mount and tire. Chris Runge makes an aluminum one but thought I could eventually do my own. Also FiberSeel has a nice Strap kit but I've not come across a period picture of 3 strap holders as they offer. I thought I'd do two straps since I don't yet have a half tire holder. I just bought the materials from a Tandy Leather store outside of Richmond VA. All I need to do is add the buckle holes once I measure where they need to be. I tried to match the leather dye to my clamshell leather straps and think they will look pretty good when done.
