Lane, I'm still trying to get Perry Taylor to drive his car to the run. We're trying to work out a schedule / plan....If he comes, we'll probably not make the B&B.....At any rate, I don't have the foggiest idea where the B&B is located....Could you give me the closest sizable town, and approx. N/S/E/W of Asheville(sp?)...
Thanks....
I think Asheville IS the closest sizeable town, although it's just outside of the small town of Lake Lure. I don't really know where it is either, but I figure I'll get directions from Aaron when the trip gets closer. I sent you his email address yesterday, so I'd recommend pinging him for directions.
Lane---we wre thinking of going to Charlotte then backtrack to the Smokies. Not firm---just trying to make some plans.

Hi Lane....Tumbled to Lake Lure's location...About 20mi. S.E. of Asheville, almost straight line....Should be beautiful country...
Ok, Jack, if you do come from Charlotte let's plan on a caravan to Townsend on Friday.
Leon, Lake Lure is in VERY pretty country.
Woohoo!! I'm gettin' psyched!

Only 40 days to go, but who's counting???
OH BOY, OH BOY, OH BOY......
OH BOY, OH BOY, OH BOY......
Five weeks from today I head for the hills. WOOHOO!!!!!
Lane - when you depart for the Smokies, don't forget to bring a First Aid kit and extra band-aids for this guy...

I'll even bring a tounaquet... er, tournakit... um, tourna... Oh crap! I'll bring something to tie off a bleeder with.
Not to mention some fine Irish whiskey - for medicinal purposes only, you understand.

Somewhere, I think Leon still has one of my 4-fingered Latex gloves, too....
When someone bleeds profusely you can simply smack him in the head with a hammer. His knocked out state will put him in a low heart rate and slow the bleeding. Then you break out the scotch when he comes to, the alcohol will again slow down the bleeding to a point where he'll think he was at a party..... everybody wins.

Hell Guys......with my medications, I'm just Vampire Bait......
All, I've just received an email from Aaron White in which he confesses to a senior moment. This caused a confusion of his scheduled vacation in Europe and the Dragon Run. Unfortunately he won't be able to make the run, nor will Lynne (Linne?) Arden be open for guests. As of now I still plan to go up to Asheville on the 8th, and head to Townsend on the 10th, but now I'll stay 2 nights in Asheville. We can still meet up for a drive to Townsend on the 10th, and anyone who is interested can join me on the 9th, as I don't have any plans for that day now, other than visiting with my in-laws.
Aaron was profuse with his apologies for this event, but he also has an idea for another gathering near Lake Lure at Chimney Rock Park that he and I will discuss. This is some seriously beautiful country, and it would be perfect for a regional or national gathering. He's already spoken to the local government. This could be a multi-day event with innumerable opportunities for driving events, plus plenty of family activities that don't have to (but could) involve our Speedies. There are multiple hotels and B&Bs in the area, including his own as well as the one at which the movie "Dirty Dancing" was filmed. I'll let y'all know more as I find it out.
Dusty, this could well be a companion event to your Colorado gathering, so perhaps we should discuss some coordination for next year.

Lane said, "There are multiple hotels and B&Bs in the area, including his own as well as the one at which the movie "Dirty Dancing" was filmed." What?!!! Dirty Dancing was made in N.C.? A Borsch Belt Catskill Mountain getaway was actually filmed in the South??? Sacrilege!
On another note, I have been in contact with Tapoco Lodge and we are good to go for our lunch stop on Saturday. I will phone them Friday night to update my headcount estimate. We're getting close! Woooo Hoooo!

Hoss, I thought the same thing, I live only an hour or less away from the Catskills where the movie was supposedly about.
I've been told that story by enough different folks that I believe it. Still, I can be gullible sometimes.
Anyway, the point is that the area is perfect for a regional or national scale gathering, and Aaron would like to set one up. I'd love to help him do so. We could tie it into next year's Dragon Run, or do it at another time.

That's OK....the film "Message in a Bottle" was about a guy living on North Carolina's Outer Banks and written by a North Carolinian, Nicholas Sparks.
It was filmed in Popham, Maine....

Lane,
I'm open to getting together for the drive to Townsend on the 10th. Jonesborough & Asheville are only 65 miles apart, and the old road over Sam's gap is little used & full of sweepers. It parallels I 26.
But their is agreat deal to see in Asheville. Park your speedy downtown on Hayward Street or at Pack Square & then stroll around taking it all in.
Also: Gordon, we sure hope you can make it. Hoss has been promising great weather, great food & a great season for Tennessee football.
Oh well, two out of three isn't bad !

Tom, Gordon tells me that he's a very strong "maybe", but that's as far as he can go right now. I'll beat on him further to get him to make his reservations (Gordon! Make your reservations!). As for the drive to Townsend, we should figure out where to meet up. I'll probably hit the road relatively early on Friday from Asheville, so I can meet y'all somewhere along the way. If Gordon and Kathy join us (as I think they will) we could meet them in Waynesville, after which we have several scenic options to get to Townsend. I have your email address, and I believe that you have mine. We can coordinate that way.

Lane,
Thanx for beating on Gordon to amke the trip. Asheville is 70 minutes from my house, Waynesville is another 20 minutes due west of there.

Gents and Ladies,
I apologize for a senior moment. I got my travel plans reversed and realized such when my travel documents arrived. I thought that we were departing on 7 September and returning on the 23rd. Not so, Its the 27 of September!!!!! DAMN!!! I really wanted to attend, trip paid for well in advance. Next year is also, but the date is 7 September.
Ah, Dirty Dancing...the portion of the film were the dirty dancing by the hotel staff members was shot here in Lake Lure. The place was the Boy's Camp and the scenes were in the gym. Jennifer Gary was shown going up to the staff party carrying a very large watermelon. The stairs led up to the place. I have a piece of the gym floor on display. A very good friend participated in the dirty dancing at the gym. She is currently a vice president of the bank that I do business with.
Several movies have been made in and around Lake lure. They are:
Dirty Dancing, Last of the Mohicans, Fire Starter, Thunder Road, Rutherford County Line, Cujo, Breed Apart and My Fellow Americans just to name a few.
I'll be posting an article about a great event that was once held in Lake Lure sponsored by the SCCA. More to come later.

Took a little longer than I expected to sort things out for early Oct. but looks like I'm now covered and WE WILL BE THERE with all y'all. Just got the room at the Tally Ho.
Looking forward to another GREAT weekend!

We are officially NOT coming, but not for the lack of good company.
Y'all be safe.
Y'all be safe.
We'll miss you and BERT. I'll have to borrow someone else's car for the traditional 80 mph drive through Townsend.
Oh well... We'll hoist a beer or six in y'all's honor.

Lane, if you'll settle for 75mph, I have your ride....
I'll settle for 45. I was lucky last time. Gotta admit, Cory's car at 80 feels like mine at 60 - and gets there faster.
Former Member
Lane, that would've been a mere 4,000 rpms. At 120 mph, the 6,000 rpm limiter kicks in.

...at 120 mph my pistons would have shot out the sides of my car followed by a flywheel sawing a path across 4 lanes of highway and the Piggly Wiggly on the roadside!!

As a rememberance of last year, we should all line up side by side & re-enact Lane discovering how well Cory's brakes worked !
"...how well Cory's brakes worked..." is certainly a creative use of language. As I recall, he and I pretty much had a competition on whose pulled the worst. I say his, he says mine. What was really bad is that they pulled in opposite directions. That was a serious pucker moment.
Yeah, we're all standing around in front of the restaurant while Lane's out on the highway doing a quality check in Cory's car. We see him come screaming back up the road toward the restaurant and, as he gets almost even with the driveway there's this tire squealing, wheel lock up, smoke generation demonstration in the center turning lane while Lane has this shocked look of WTF?? on his face.
Priceless........
Somebody turns to somebody else in our small group and says; "What the heck is all THAT about??"

I think the guy in the SUV was kinda shocked, too.
Had no idea I was going so fast. Hoopty REEEEALY needs a speedometer for people like me.

Tail of the Dragon I know that place well it is one of reasons we moved from Miami to western N.C. I love the roads here but now everybody comes here every weekend and spoils the fun a few of us use to have. Imagine driving the Dragon and its just you the road and the car those were the days my freinds . So now I drive the Dragon on wenesdays for my lunch break Lucky dog Iam Huh I live on Highway 19 and 129 in Topton N.C just a few miles from the Dragon Here are some photos of me and my bride on the Dragon
So come join us in 4 weeks. Heck, you could even bring that gorgeous Aston Martin.
STOP DROOLING LANE.....You can't brake test that car.....It's MY turn....PLEASE!!!
Did some research this morning. That looks like a DB4 Zagato, although the rear looks a bit beefier to me, almost like a recreation on a modern chassis. Either way, it's gorgeous. And yes, I AM drooling.

Pete, Have you assembled additional Ravana Zs? If so, we would like to see some additional pictures.
I thought I sensed some Corvette DNA in there. Thanks Charles. Interesting that the website shows the same two pictures. Pete, are you a part of the company that builds (or built) these?
