Agh Grasshopper you begin to learn. It's the journey, not the destination. When we ride the bike we travel 750 / 1000 miles a day on the superslab. On the back roads we have been known to take twelve hours to travel 200 miles jus sayin. Yes we regularly make a 300 mile round trip for hotdogs and beer.
Sounds Iike my kinda trip!
OH yea I don't want to stay at the no tell motel either I'll leave that for Vince and Gerd
Hey Marty
How much will Wife allow you to spend per night on a place to lay your heads?

Tree fitty!
Aaron, is that a trick ?
Nope. He's wondering if you'd want to stay at his B&B. I'd suggest you take him up on it as it's a really nice place.
Take a look at the Waynesville Inn! Can go as high as $200+ per night! Link later. Availability that will accommodate our group may be limited on a 200 mile journey. Best to select a single lodging and make a circle that includes a lot of sites.
Aaron's place is great AND you get to take your Speedster on a hill climb going up his driveway. A beautiful, new, log B&B custom built by Aaron. Sandy would approve. The link to his site is in the supporting merchant's forum.
If we're in the Asheville area I'll probably be staying at my inlaws to save a little money.
If we are traveling, I thought the following hotels would be worth a personal inquiry. Maybe I can negotiate a group rate in my neck of the woods for the Friday night we transit through.

An older character-driven hotel right on the Blue Ridge, and it's right across the street from "Canyons", an old brothel/speakeasy that has some of the best layered views looking west. We could do dinner at the Canyons, and limp across the street to bed after day one if all confirm. See Canyons: http://www.canyonsbr.com/history.html
Another option I wanted to inquire on:
http://www.countryinns.com/boone-hotel-nc-28607/ncboone
This chain hotel is in downtown Boone, and would make an easy zip to the breakfast meeting place at Daniel Boone Inn on for the Saturday morning run to the Asheville area if we wanted to go that route. Nothing fancy, just a clean room in a new-ish hotel at an affordable price.
Both would be less than the $200/ night, so if that breaks the bank- lemme know and I will focus towards another direction, or bow out gracefully.
...and before you ask- I believe both places have in room safes for your gloves Marty. (sorry, had to do it!!)

Tom Raymond are you out there? Destination and lodging should be based upon whether or not Tom Raymond can secure the Bristol Motor Speedway as a venue. If so, that move with a firm date would be a decision maker!
Another driving venue would be the N.C Yadkin Valley Winery Tour all the way to Droughn Park on the Blue Ridge.
Ole Lane is so tight that he squeaks when he walks!

Just returned from west Coast trip. Will not know about BMS until probably late March. I have asked for Friday 9/14
My first thought after reading that was "How cool would it be if we were a Porsche 914 club driving the BMS on 9/14?" The next thought (this is how my mind works - frightening) was "I guess we would want our gathering on the 56th of March, huh?"
Oh goody, they're bringing my meds now.

So the nice orderlies don't have to put me back in that ill-fitting jacket with the long sleeves.

We are very close to getting a tour and driving laps at BMS. Will advise ASAP.
