I still say we could do a series of these:

MA 202 North from Phillipston, MA up to Hillsborough, NH, then West on NH 9 to Keene, NH, then South on NH 12 to Rt 2 in Mass, then East or West to where ever your home is - That's for the New Englanders.

Alternatively, do a Western NE run down Rt 7 from Bennington, VT to Great Barrington or Lee, MA and hop onto I90 to get home (but stop at Tanglewood along the way).

West Virginia WV50 East/West for the more Northern of the mid-Atlantic folks,

Then the Tail of the Dragon for the central/Southern Mid-Atlantic folks.

Special grill badge for the Tri-fecta!

OK, so what about you Left Coast folks? You've already got the Great Oregon Trail Ride or the ride at Henry's IM BBQ, all you need is one in/around Colorado and/or another one somewhere else in the Rockies or through Wine Country and YOU'VE got a Tri-Fecta, too!

2008 should be one Hell of a year!
Cory sounds like he would fit in well with the New England TYP356 club: They did almost a trip each weekend throughout the Summer, with guys (in ORIGINAL steel 356's) going to Lime Rock, Watkins Glen and all over New England (each state, each year). Their "end of the season bash" was a trip to Owlshead, Maine to the antique festival (antique boats, cars and planes). That trip alone was over 600 miles! That was supposed to be their last this year, but the WX has been so warm that they went out to meet the Connecticut 912 club in Pomfret last weekend "just for something to do on windy back roads". Cool bunch!

Chris and I went with them to Watkins Glen last year - we had the only car on a traler AND the only replica - that says a lot!!!! And these guys cruise at 75 - 85mph on the Interstates!!!!

Anyway.....here's Pearl, getting ready for the trip to the Dragon:

"Criminal" Johnny2bolts checking in. I called the Blount (pronounced "blunt") County General Sessions Court Clerk to find out what the damages were going to be for my alleged indiscretion on the Dragon run. Holy S**t, they like to slap you down hard!

The clerk's staffer I spoke to mentioned something about discussing my options; I was all ears at this point. I seems that since I have not been to driving school in the past five years (as in not a habitual offender), I could pay a nominal fee and attend a class. Upon completion, I would be awarded a certificate that I would bring to the Clerk's office and pay a substantially reduced fine. As a result of following this path, I would not get a mark on my license. Woo Hoo! Sounds like a winner to me, so that's what I'm gonna do.

For our next Dragon assault, I will generously allow another enthusiast drive in the point position. It's fun, most of the time....honest.

a lesser criminal element
Hoss,

Here is a little anecdote that might be useful to you in Driving School. This happened to me (honest) many years ago in MD. I made the same election for the class thing, which was supposed to be four evenings for three hours each, if I remember correctly -- which I probably don't. So we arrive, all us malcontents without the first clue of how to drive safely, etc. etc. The instructor explains that in order to get your clean record, and a completion certificate, you will have to pass a test with a really good grade, but do not worry, as he is an EXCELLENT teacher and nobody has failed to pass yet. One way he makes sure you'll do well, is that you practice taking the test each week. And so without further ado on that first night, he passed out a "sample" test, and gave us a few minutes to work through it. We graded each others tests, and the teach gave the answers and discussed each question -- a natural learning experience, don't you know. At the end, he asked if anyone had scored 100% or maybe missed just one question. One or maybe two hands went up. (Mine was not one of them) The teacher went and examined the two tests, paid the two "students" a nice complement, and said since they were so well versed in the driving laws in MD, that they were free to go with flying colors. I was stunned. These guys got out w/ just 1/2 hour in the seat. I was in that damn class all those extra hours for all those extra weeks, when, w/ just about 30 mins beforehand w/ the MD Driver's Safety Handbook, I could have aced that test with ease. Every question on all the tests the guy gave were taken directly from this book, even the final. I have no idea how things are run down there where you are, but maybe if you get the little book, and read it over, you might be able to get out early? I'm just sayin' . . .
Johnny2fast checking in. I just got back from my driving school experience and I have to say it wasn't bad at all. Scheduled for three hours, we were out in 2 1/2. BTW, I wasn't the only one present that got nailed on the Dragon.

I even heard that the Honda Hoot is considering pulling out of Knoxville next year (they have been coming here for years) due to the over zealous troopers pulling them over in droves. Perhaps when the reality of the potential loss of business hits home some pressure will be brought to bear to get the boys to back off a bit.

For those who participated in the run and offered to help defray the cost of the ticket, thanks but no thanks. However, I should like to point out that at Carlisle, I may be easily bought off with beer and egg sammiches. Just a thought.
Hoss
For next year's run we kinda know where they are and what to do. There aren't many places that they can be. Some of the better driving is on other roads anyway. In my opinion, you do the Dragon for the photo ops and to say you've done it. Then you have your fun on the Cherahola Skyway and other such roads where you can get into 4th gear once in a while.

And we certainly plan to have a "next year's run".
Cory, wrt:

"Who in their right mind would have predicted this?"

in your photo gallery, I ask: who here is in their right mind? Why are you asking us? So what IS the question?

In a multi-dimensional system w/ N degrees of freedom, where N is very large positive, there is a finite, non-zero probabillity that any two elements, say, n and p (where n=Hoopty and p=BERT) will interact. Simple, right? Go Google "stochastic", and then tell me what it says. You may wonder why, but suggest time better spent simply enjoying.
