The above mentioned property is now sold out for Saturday 10/18/14
Strike that last reply by me. I called the hotel directly (828)-687-9199, and made my reservation for Saturday 10/18. Senior (old fart) rate is $129 for a king bed, n/s room. THEY HAVE PLENTY of ROOMS !!!
They need to fix the bit about them being sold out as it is almost certainly costing them business. I may see if I can get the lower rate.
My wife decided she wanted to see the foliage. I will be at the Biltmore Weds and Thurs night Oct 15 and 16. Think wife is heading home on Friday. I am going to do the Dragon and the Cherohala on Friday Oct 17. If anyone wants to meet up in Asheville on the morning of Friday Oct 17 that would be great. I can lead or follow, I don't care but I do know the roads. I will be staying at the Asheville Airport Comfort Inn Friday night. $135/night AAA discount. Will attend the show on Saturday. I plan on spending the night in Charlotte, NC on Saturday night with an old friend and driving back to Norfolk VA on Sunday. Thought I would share my itinerary. If no one wants to ride the GAP on Friday I'll meet up with you guys at the Comfort Inn on Friday night.
Sweet! Look forward to meeting you, Phil.
Didn't you meet at Carlisle this year? You were both there.
Entirely possible, but if he didn't say "Fear the Yorkie!" I wouldn't have made the connection.
I've attended three consecutive Carlisle weekends.
It's such a large gathering that it's natural that participants break up into small cohesive groups of friends...much like the preferred seating in a high school lunchroom. Familiar associations with established friends is comforting. There are many in attendance that I've never exchanged a word with!
Nobody is intentionally excluded (except Rich Drewek) it simply takes a gregarious personality to penetrate an established group. So it's understandable that a person on the fringe can be overlooked.
Think I spoke to Lane for a few minutes under the tent. I actually think he was the first SOC member I spoke with. Think he was filling up at the nearby gas station and I couldn't figure out how to negotiate the flood and I followed him to the hotel.
