Greg Teeple and I are in the process of planning a fall tour in East Tennessee. Our tentative plans would include a late morning meeting at a rally point near Knoxville for tire kicking and lunch. Following this, we will tour a yet to be determined area of the Smokeys with stops for photo ops etc. On the return trip, our tentative plan is that Sarah and I will host a cookout at our home in Tellico Village. We'll have the T.V. on for Vol fans; Game time is 7:00 PM. for anyone not in a hurry to return home.

oops....date....09/25/2004....Thanks Greg....blush
Mike, just drop by on your way to Greece! Yep, seeing the hoss-hat in action will be memorable I'm sure. My only concern will be if I'm following behind the Subytub, will my forward vision be completely obscurred by the hat, not to mention the wind turbulence?

Stacey Campbell, wish you could join in with us, but I see the car and aircraft show you mention is on the same day. Let us know if you change your plans.
Mike, is that a young Elvis Presley? I thought I recognized the crooked smile;-) Current plans include a rally point in Tellico Plains, TN, for tire kicking and lunch. Then, we will take a drive on the Cherohala Skyway towards N. Carolina, double back and make a stop at Bald River Falls. At least two photo ops will occur during the drive. We will then take some country roads back towards Knoxville and probably stop for dinner, for those who don't have to hurry back to the home 20. Come on Vol fans and wanna bees, show us some of that volunteer spirit and I promise we'll have a great time.

ps. The Hoss hat will be present, but probably lashed down during the drive so I don't become airborne.
This past Saturday I had the pleasure of finally meeting the notorious John "Hoss" Hallstrand and his wife Sarah at Tellico Plains TN where we planned to cruise the Cherohala Skyway. Unfortunately a short distance along the Skyway there had been an accident and we were told it would be a 2 hour wait before anyone could proceed, so we backtracked and took the Foothills Pkwy towards the Smokies, ending up at Townsend TN. All in all a great day, and I was able to inspect the Subytub. It appears to be an excellent representation of the cabriolet body style with a fixed windshield, slightly different at the door tops, plusher interior,; very impressive - a/c, rollup windows, modern Suby mechanicals.

What a blast to pace along with another Speedster through the mountain twisties! Hope others in the Southeast can join in next time.
Greg, Sarah and I had a great day. I have posted some pictures of the drive, but I don't think that they begin to capture the fun we had. Missing out on the Cherohala Skyway loop was a disappointment of course, but we managed to get on some pretty good twisty country roads anyway. The weather cooperated, so it turned into an excellent early fall cruise.

On a sad note, the reason that the Skyway was closed was because a car had been struck by two motorcycles apparently coming from opposite directions, injuring the car driver, one of the bikers and killing a 43 year old woman (biker) from Florida. Worse still, the very next day, Sunday, a minivan crossed the centerline on the Foothills Parkway and hit an oncoming motorcycle, killing both the husband and wife riding on it. We had been on that road the day before. All in all, a bad day for bikers.

If there is any message here it is try to enjoy every day and spend time with the people you love and admire. You never know what the future may hold.

John and all,

Great Speedster roads, I notice a bike in the background of one of the shots, did you just pass him or was he pushing you guys along?

Hope to have some nice pics to post from our Southern Oregon Tour next week. Weather is promising to be the sunny balmy 80's with that sepia toning that everyone loves. Love this time of year, bugs population is down quite a bit and still is top down weather!

Thanks Jim. The handling is confidence inspiring to say the least. It sticks like glue and there is no fish tailing, as the Speedster was prone to do. BTW, the initials "DNP" have not made it into my personal lexicon as yet, explanation please. (my guess, "damn near perfect"....but I don't know). Come on over to red dirt country east and we'll take a spin in the mountains.
John
