Mike:

I remember when I bought my CMC kit, the first thing that delayed building it was the lack of a garage/shop suitable for building a car. I ended up adding a third bay to my two-car garage, and turned it into a "Home Improvement" kind of shop - insulated, heated, LOTS of light and LOTS of outlets and all that. THEN, when that was done (probably took ten months to finish, if I remember right) I started working on the car.

The one thing I would change today would be to install a truly rugged garage floor. I used two-part epoxy garage floor paint back then and it simply didn't hold up. Chris has a friend who just installed something purported to be the best around - I'll find out what it is and let you know (or, more likely, Chris will see this and post an answer). I would also be curious if any folks on the forum have used vinyl floor tiles with any luck.

Anyway, enjoy the new digs for the German Iron........looks like a really nice addition........you setting up a micro-brewery upstairs?

Thanks Gordon, yes I would be interested in the garage floor. They just poured the concrete floor last week. They also painted a sealer on it right away. I was thinking painting a checker pattern on it. The cars cannot go in for 28 days....but we are off to Greece in a few weeks. Maybe try to put them in 18 days....gotta ask the builder tomorrow.

As for the upstairs, cigar lounge for the CUBANS and thinking DRAFT beer. Bought the antique wood floor to install and at Carlisle I bought the Porsche stuff at one of the vendors to put up on the wall.
I put a checkerboard pattern (black & white) on my garage floor using vinyl tiles. It looked great, was very easy to do, and held up well to everything except heat. The hot engine and rear tires on my old Boxster would cause the tiles beneath them to buckle, pucker, and generally pull themselves out of alignment. I had extras so, I just kept replacing them. Finally, I put rubber door mats under the back tires and that seemed to solve the problem.
I have since moved and don't have tiles on my new garage floor, but I'd bet the heat coming off the bottom of a Speedster would cause the same problems with vinyl squares. It is, however, an inexpensive way to get the look.
A couple of the guys in my car club are intalling lifts in their garages to effectively double the capacity of a car stall. If you have a high enough ceiling and/or a small enough car, you can do it. If I ever get a serious desire for a Spyder, or something like it, I know there is a way to pull it off and keep 'em all inside. Now talk about the Walter Mitty effect kicking in........
I love Greece having been there 3 times in the past on business. I love lunch in Pireaus having octopus right there on the water. I stayed in the past at the Grand Bretagne Hotel across the street from the Parliament. Found a great hotel at the new airport. Awesome, clean, modern and affordable.

But this time, my client who has become a friend is lending me his house on Poros and I get to have his Boat. So Jos

Funny you should mention that...

My friend Bill just finished a rather huge endeavor by painting his two bay garage floor with a two part epoxy concrete paint - and even in a checkerboard pattern, Mike! It's by a company called UCoatIt (www.ucoatit.com). The stuff is just downright awesome.

MY BIGGEST TIP - make SURE you remember to put some sort of texture material on the floor. Bill's is perfectly smooth (he forgot to put the texture sprinkles they provide onto his floor during the first paint step, and you can't add it later). It makes life pretty difficult if you get any type of oil on it. It becomes a skating rink. Also, because his is so smooth and concrete is colder than ambient air, he gets a lot of condensation on his floor which makes things equally as slick.

Here's the big thread he wrote up on our forum about it - enjoy!
